I’ve been considering it recently
But honestly it’s a little expensive and I don’t have extra money at the moment
When I told my mom she looked at me with utter disgust and started asking “who’s telling me to do this”
Knowing full well that not a single soul on this earth could tell me to do anything at all
I used to be the biggest doubter in the effects of therapy in the past.
But I’ve watched some pretty sad people turn their lives around through it
It’s not for everyone. And maybe it won’t help but I’m no longer closed to the idea14 Reply- 10 mo
It can't hurt to try. And unless you try you will never know. The key I think is to find the right therapy and therapist for you. And it doesn't really matter what others think. It's a matter of how it can benefit your life. 🙃

In my case for example the right therapy for me became yoga and meditation and it helped me become aware of what my real issue with myself was and it helped me break toxic thinking patterns that were causing me anxiety and a tendency to overthink. This is just a clarification that is meant to explain what I mean when I say that it's a matter of finding what the right therapy for you is. As for your mother's reaction... well our parents come from a generation that believe that you have to get through life suppressing everything you experience and just get on with it. But we are all sensitive beings and it's okay to find a helping hand elsewhere.

That is a great starting point. Hiking in Nature provides you with so much more then working out at the gym. I know that for sure because I hike regularly and I live surrounded by nature.

10 moI have a pretty unpopular opinion on therapy. I think it's unnecessary. People didn't need it back in the day and people don't need it now. We're such a soft generation that feels attacked by everything and feel like the world's against us. It's not. That's just life.
If you need therapy, then the best one you can talk to is a good friend with a good head on their shoulders and genuinely has your best interest in mind. That's better than going to a therapist for their subjective professional opinion and doesn't genuinely care about you; they're only there to get paid.
And honestly, if you don't have friends, then just use ChatGPT. It's already proven to give better feedback and results than actual therapists.

10 moI’ve been to therapy on and off since I was a kid, my parents wanted to make sure I adjusted well in the wake of their divorce. It’s good if you have problems to solve, therapy is a very solution-focused means of going about whatever’s in your head. If you just want to talk, it’s also good for that but might get kinda pricey if you keep it up, especially without insurance. Anyone who says therapy is “bad” or “doesn’t work” most likely requires either a therapy that doesn’t work from the top down, or just really sucks at reflecting on their own actions and taking accountability.

10 moyeah, i've gone since i was a kid and i'm for it
therapists are people too, so not all of them are gonna be compatible with you, so that takes time. also YOU have to put effort in for it to work too like it won't just magically "fix" you lol10 Reply

9 moI think therapy is really helpful—it’s a space to understand yourself better and work through tough stuff with someone who’s trained to listen and guide you.
It’s not about being “bad” or “broken,” but about growth and healing.
I haven’t been myself, but I’d definitely consider it if I ever needed support or wanted to work on personal challenges.
What about you? Have you tried therapy or thought about it?11 Reply- 9 mo
I haven't done traditional therapy like going to talk to a professional therapist but I am a qualified complementary therapist and what has helped me has been writing, meditation and photography. And whatever form of therapy you choose it helps a great deal and I believe it's power and benefits in terms of healing should be acknowledged.
My experience is mixed. ONE therapist knew how to work out and control the flow to achieve a goal that I don't think I would have reached ALTHOUGH not resolving the issue it did get a clarity about it. The other 3 were ok to useless.
I found though that the GP doctors that I spoke with about things were the most helpful for their input in spite of the short time I had with them. One reason for this is that they were men and the therapy industry tends not to cater well for men's needs as it's built largely around women's and staffed by them too.
10 ReplyI have seen loads of different types of therapists.
in my opinion it is mostly pseudoscientific nonsense.
It's like looking for love at a whorehouse.
These people are not your friends. You're just paying them crazy money to nod and listen and give obvious fucking advice.
You also risk developing a habit of dwelling on the past and complaining.

10 ReplyOver the years, it's helped me a lot. Sadly, my therapist moved to another city and I haven't been able to find someone to replace her. I still have things that need working on.

10 moWay overused. Too many therapists. A lot of bad therapists too.
Having mentors is good. Having wise people in your life you can seek advise from is good. Therapists are often not that.

10 ReplyI believe it saves lives. There's a time for it and the individual needs to work to be independent of it after the healing has been gained enough to do so.
10 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I supervise Master's level and doctoral level therapists. Some of them are fairly good and some of them are not so good at all but the vast majority of them seem to be very good

10 moI've had therapy multiple times. I feel like it can be useful, but it normally needs to be in conjunction with meds.
