There are treatments for certain aspects of M. S., mostly medications that stop the demyelination in the brain.

The reason is that almost all of them - over 80% - are genetic or have a significant amount of genetic contribution, and while there is much research now on genetic therapies, still philosophical arguments persist about the ethics of using these therapies.
