Does food compensate for sleep when you have difficulty returning to bed after getting up too early in the day?

I woke up early today due to dehydration and then because my cortisol levels were so high from my circadian rhythm, I could not fall back asleep, even though I took supplements that help me fall sleep later in the day. I was so tired from waking early, I did not know if I would have the mental energy to survive the entire day, and then I ate two snacks and had some coffee with creme and now I feel just as energized as I would have felt if I had woke up at 11 in the afternoon today. I did not know before today, that I could use food as a substitute for sleep when I wake up early in the morning and cannot fall back asleep.
