My dad doesn’t believe me when I tell him that I got up an hour or two ago. I’m usually asleep by 11pm and I get up around 4am. My dad checked on me just 15 minutes ago while our dog was in the room with me. He asked me about being up late, I told him what I said here, and he doubted me by saying, “Are you sure you just got up or have you been up all night?”
I literally asked him how I can sleep longer and avoid waking up at such early times. He half-answered my question, said he doesn’t know how to deal with that, and went back to sleep.
He gets irritated when I don’t take our dog out to go potty outside every 30 minutes to an hour even when I am up so late and the dog happens to be sleeping or just needs water.
I actually no longer believe in getting 8 hours of sleep or sleeping at the right time. There are literally TV shows airing all the time, even during “sleep hours.” Going by this logic, it should be illegal for a show to air at 3am, or someone to keep working till 5am.
People work during those “sleep hours,” and even do TikTok livestreaming.
My question is, does society really need sleep? Or is it just a scare tactic to prevent people from socializing and communicating with people from different parts of the world?
My dad also believes you really only need 6 hours of sleep. Well, I slept for 5 tonight.

Yes we need sleep to function in our waking hours. Also, don't blame late night television for airing shows. That's their prerogative. No one forces you to watch television at those hours. But yes, sleep is absolutely important for the following reasons:
"Sleep is essential for human health and well-being. It serves several vital functions, including:
Rest and Restoration: Sleep provides a period of rest for the body and brain, allowing it to repair itself, conserve energy, and prepare for the next day.
Cognitive Function: Sleep is crucial for memory consolidation, learning, and problem-solving. During sleep, the brain processes and organizes information, strengthening neural connections and improving cognitive abilities.
Emotional Regulation: Sleep helps regulate mood and reduce stress. It allows the brain to release hormones that promote relaxation and calm the nervous system.
Physical Health: Sleep is essential for maintaining a healthy immune system, regulating metabolism, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
Growth and Development: Sleep is particularly important for children and adolescents, as it supports growth and development of the brain and body.
Overall Well-Being: Adequate sleep contributes to a sense of well-being, improves mood, enhances creativity, and reduces the risk of accidents and injuries.
In summary, sleep is essential for maintaining optimal health and well-being by providing rest, supporting cognitive function, regulating emotions, promoting physical health, and facilitating growth and development.
