How tall do you think my son will be in the future?

After putting my baby boy to sleep (he got tired and gets fussy) to in crib, I'm relaxing for a bit until his next feeding time.

Background:

My baby boy was born 3 weeks early than the due date. It was suppose to be for June 8-12 and he was born via emergency C-section on May 15.

He just turned 5 months yesterday (Oct 15) and his new measures are 68 cm (26.77 in) and 7.250 kg (nearly 16 lbs). He's getting heavier and my arms would hurt if I were carrying him under my arms outside for long distance so I wear a baby carrier or use a stroller. The pediatrician said he was average in weight but tall in height. On the Google it does say 68 cm is average for a 6 month-old baby.

Given this information how tall would you say my boy will be in the future? Any guess?

I was 5ft (150 cm) at age 10 and 5'7 is my adult height. I currently weigh 142 Ibs. My husband was 5'3 when he was 13 but grew to be 6'2 and weights about 190 Ibs. My parents used to be 5'4 and 5'11. My husband's mother (she died years ago) was 5'7 and his father was 6'0.

Hard to say. My dad was 5'7" and so was his dad. But his grandfather was at least 6'.
My mom was 5'2" but her dad was probably 5'11" and one of her brothers was a good 6'2".

I turned out to be 6'2". I was average height when I was young but had my growth spurt late when I was around 14-15.

So it can basically also depend on male members on the mother's side? That's interesting. Genes are so random indeed.
I was reading that we also contribute 50% of the genes in height for sons. I think if I were much shorter, my son would still be taller than me but much shorter than his father. This happened to my female childhood friend, while her ex husband is about 6'2, she's 4'11. Her oldest son is like 5'6 and the youngest one (age 12-13) is shorter than average.

The genes are there. It just depends on what comes up with the roll of the dice.

Some of if has to do with nutrition. For example, many Japanese and Chinese were short. But recent generations became taller with better nutrition. Even American men are now over 3" taller than the average in, say 1920.

. husband is tall , but if you look at virtually every kid , they are taller , he was born tall so I'm saying ( good educated guesstimate) husband plus 3 inches..

The reasons are questionable , but really don't matter , the point is.. this is what's happening and that takes him to 6 ft 5in plus.

But based on growth history :
Your husband was 5’3 at 13, which is quite tall for that age, and reached 6’2, showing a strong late-teen growth spurt pattern, possibly genetic.
You also had above-average growth (5’0 at 10 → 5’7 adult), meaning both parents had strong growth trajectories.


That increases the likelihood your son could be at the taller end of that range, maybe 6’1–6’3 (185–191 cm).

My youngest brother was born 3-4 weeks before mum's due date. He is 6'3" now. Tallest member in the family. So, it also kind of depends on nutrition. My mum made sure we eat a lot of nutritious food and she gave us bournvita/milo mixed with milk everyday. He was an active kid too, so that also helped him get much taller. That's why I'd say, it's unpredictable. It's possible that he can grow taller than his father.

Look at age 3. They say a boy is half his adult height on his 3rd birthday. That means I expect my son to be around 6'2" as he was 3'1" on his 3rd birthday. I'm 6', my dad was 5'10" and his dad was 6'3" at the peak of his life.

My younger brother was 5' when he died in a road accident aged 9 years 11 months. He was only a couple of inches shorter than me at the time although 3 years younger than me. Based on the height at 3 he'd likely have grown to be around 6'4".

I'll keep in track on his 2nd and 3rd birthday. I was just reading about the system where they measure both of the parents heights, that number gets divided by 2 and then add 6.5 when it's a boy. Using the system, it gave me a result of 185.5 cm (6''1). It came out shorter (incorrect) for me but correct with my brother. So I guess it's not 100% reliable either. I'll just have to wait 2-3 years later.

Eh hard to say. If I judge on my family I should be taller if height is an average of both. My mom is 4’9/4’10 and my dad is 5’11. I’m 4’11, my brother is 5’4. My sister’s dad is around 6’1/6’2? She is 5’4. So I’d guess your son would be at least be your height at the minimum but only time will tell which genes are stronger lol

My dad was 6' 1". I passed that in high school and eventually got to be 6' 9". I was at least 11 lbs. when I was born.
There's a formula to find out how supposedly tall he'll be. I THINK if you measure him at 2 and multiply by 3 or 4, that should tell you.
I used to know this kid that was my present height when he was just 16!! He's over 7' tall, now!! My cousin's son is either 7' 1" or 7' 3".

I don't think you can go by that. I was born a month premature and was underweight. And I've grown to be 6'5".

Can't the doctors kind of make a determination by gaps in thier bones? Or do they have to wait till he reaches more towards near puberty to do that?

The pediatrician said that so far he's on the upper end of the growth and if he keeps that growth, he'll continue being above average when he turns 1. It can't be determine yet until he's a bit older.

That's like asking "how tall is this baby redwood tree going to be?" Gee, I don't know. Maybe somewhere between 250 and 400 ft tall? The height of your son now and the height of you and your husband at 10 and 13 are completely irrelevant. People grow at different ages. I haven't gotten any taller since I was 16. My friend stopped getting taller at age 20. Most likely somewhere between you and your husband's height.

We can’t answer that because we can’t see the future. I am literally the tallest in the family EVER and everyone else is in the family is shorter. And no one thought I would be taller because there was indication that I would be taller, so… just be prepared for the future and you will see.

Within my family (both from mom and dad's side), the shortest man was 5'8 and the tallest ones were my father and brother at 5'11.
From my husband's side of the family, the shortest man was 5'10 and tallest one was 6'4.

Height is determined by genetics. Your son at minimum will be 6ft tall but most likely be 1 or 2 inches taller than your husband.

Supposedly you are half your height on your 2nd birthday. Being that he is 1.5 years away from that, I would guess he will be 50% taller then. So 102cm, which would put him at 204cm.
