NYC Marathon today is full, would you run the Antarctic Ice Marathon?

Today (Sunday, 12-Nov-2025) is the New York City Marathon, where 50 ,000 runners will run the 26.2 mile (42.2 km) race. It's practically impossible to get into the race, with thousands more applying.

Other major marathons in Tokyo, Boston, London, Sydney, Berlin and Chicago are also hard to get into. 840,000 runners applied for the London marathon in 2025, only 17,000 were accepted. Over one million have already applied for the 2026 London marathon.

Are you a runner?

If you want to run a marathon, maybe you should try for one not so crowded, like the Antarctic Ice Marathon (pictured).

I don't particularly like crowds so I'd avoid the big marathons. Mostly it's trail running around here, some are 40 miles long

Lolol! Beer Marathon. All I can imagine is one person finally managing to stagger across the finish line by the end. 🤣

It's only one mile but you have to drink a pint of beer every quarter of a mile. You're expected to have a few warm up pints for safety before you start.

When I was still running marathons I would give it a try. When I was trying to make a comeback a couple of years ago I was planning on running the Dublin Marathon in Ireland. It seemed like a nice uncrowded race.

I’m a runner, but for distances of 5 to 10 km. I could probably finish a marathon, but not in icecold conditions. That would wipe me out. 😵

At one time - four or five decades ago - I was a runner, but I never tried to exceed five miles per day.

Not run it, cycle perhaps or ice skate on a lake (done this before so it's very doable).
