What should new patients expect during their first appointment at an allergist’s clinic?

Hello there Doctor Sniffles. Given your username I would expect you to be able to answer this question. I would assume that your first appointment would be more of a consultation where they ask what issues you are having and whether it is food based or airborne type problems. Food alergies are far more serious than having the occasional sniffles from the seasons changing. Food allergies can be fatal in some cases so that is something that is more concerning. If you have food allergies they are likely going to run blood diagnostic tests to try to pinpoint what it is that you are allergic to. That can lead to more and more appointments considering it is sometimes hard to point to the exact cause. I give an example of my mother. She has an allergy to soy. It took a while to figure that out and lots of trips to the doctor before they found out what the issue was.
