Do you prefer your doctor to be the same gender as you or the opposite? Why or why not?

It kind of depends on what I’m there for. I had a female doctor for many years and that was great to discuss my “lady problems” but just recently I had to go to a doctor again. My female doctor had taken me off of her patient list because I had moved away for a while and she isn’t taking new patients so I got in with a male doctor. I only needed medical clearance so all that was fine but he brought up my reproductive health and that conversation was a bit awkward even though he was professional through it.

It depends on what I’m going to the doctor for. In most scenarios I don’t care, if it’s for something like the gyno then I want a woman.

I literally don't care like at all. I know that doctors see weird shit every day so if they do have to see me naked or whatever they won't be shocked as they see hundreds of naked bodies a week. So I don't care if it's a male or female doctor seeing me naked.

I imagine women might prefer a female doctor though since men are normally much physically stronger than women and many women have faced sexual assault at some point in their lives so they might feel uncomfortable around a male doctor.

It doesn't matter to me. If they help me, that's the doctor I will stay with.
However, I do prefer a woman doctor to do my yearly fee fee examination. 🫢

Never had a female doctor but I don’t really care. A lot of women see male doctors. A female primary care or specialist wouldn’t faze me.

1) Do they know what they are doing?

2) Can I get an appointment?

I genuinely don't care about what gender they are. Biggest thing I care about is that I feel heard. Like if I tell my doctor that I've been feeling a lot of extra cramping lately, and their answer is something along the lines of simply attributing it to a random bad period, I'd be upset. Versus telling asking me questions about what's normal for me, if I've had such cramps before, history of activity, etc.

Don't care much. Whilst all doctors are equally qualified not all doctors are equally good. The idea that female doctors are more holistic is in my experience is crap.

I would go with one that is good and I can talk to. I am technical so I expect a doctor will talk technically to me. Not everybody will want that. So it will depend on the individual as to who is best for you.

It depends. If it’s a gyno I prefer to see a woman, I once went to a male doctor and I think he was a bit inappropriate with me. For any other issues I have bo problem seeing male doctors.

Hm i’d say at this point gender doesn’t matter to me when it comes to receiving healthcare, having an empathetic and understanding doctor is what i aim for

I have male doctors but I have had female doctors and appreciate their gentle touch and smaller fingers. I had a piece of rusty metal in my eye and a female doctor flipped the lid open and removed it bare handed. I never felt a thing.

As for a doctor a doctor is a doctor & the only preference I have is that the doctors are experienced in their field of study & they’re not one of these TikTok doctors you find nowadays.

If it involves below the belt things, yes I'd want the doctor to be the same gender. Just as many women are not comfortable with a male doctor looking down there, I'm not comfortable with a female doctor doing so.
