My roommates want to know why I have no friends ...but does my reason sound stupid?

i want to open up to them because they feel weird about me. but anyways the reason is my acne...my chest, back, neck, and face were completely blown up with pimples. I isolated myself from everyone because I was so insecure because of it. I wouldn't go out with anyone at all because I was too ashamed. I lost so many possible friendships because of that. on top of that, I had bad drinking problems. every time id go out the girls I was with had to take care of me because I would black out and puke. lost possible friendships because of that as well.

so does this all sound stupid? they want to know about my past and where I'm coming from and why I never talk about friends/have them over/go out with them or whatever...and they want me to open up but I feel like my reasoning may sound stupid or silly (about the acne thing) to them

What is stupid is why your roomates can't be friends with you.

Acne is no reason to not be friends with a person. Jeez! There were a few girls over the years that have had acne but I found them very attractive nevertheless. They still wanted nothing to do with me.

As for blacking out and girls having to take care of you, oh man, you don't want to have friends take care of you like that more than once. They may figure you're too much of a burden. But apparently that's not news to you. And many people can relate to acne. It's the dermatological evil that many of us went through adolescence with. While that's hardly a comfort to you, please remember that others can probably relate as well, at least to some extent.

For me acne is generally a thing of the past at my age. But I regard myself as hopelessly ugly so we all have our points where we just ... cave in emotionally. At least some of us do. The way I see it is... based on your last statement... if a person really asks a question, they'd better be ready for the answer. They ask. Let's hope they really want to know. And tell them. I mean, it doesn't sound like it could be worse than what you're currently dealing with. Best wishes.

well its not that people didn't want to be friends with me because I had acne, its just that I didn't want to hang out with anyone because I felt disgusting. and I didn't have just regular adolescent acne. I'm still on prescription medication (Accutane, very serious) now because of it.

Then try to get over it. I almost NEVER say that. But if it's within you and you're apparently not being rejected by others then at least consider that they either don't have a problem with it or you, or it's not enough of a problem to reject you. I'd say that's great!

I tend to disagree since it p?sses off everybody that gets it. They should be able to relate.

go see a doctor about it if you are so worried. I don't see why you got to just say"i got pimples" yes it is gross but who gives a f*** you don't have to get naked and show them that. I'm sure them llving with you they seen a few glances of it. sh*t just be cool hang chill talk. but you DO NOT have to share that information.

Only a small minded person would think your reason is 'stupid'.

I beleav the way everyone acts now is due to past issues, weather it is good or bad. Everyone has a reason for something and that reason is never stupid I try hard to understand why people do certin things.

Go on and share why if you want to, I think its understanable and a lot of people would be in the same boat all over the road with acne. x

don't be afraid of being yourself. I see a lot of people who are confident and have acne. I have been lucky and don't have to deal with acne but have you tried things like benzoyl peroxide or taking more zinc in your diet? even omega 3's help. you can go see a skin specialist as well. don't let acne keep you from making friends. cheers :)

sorry but you didn't answer my question. (and by the way, I do not have acne anymore. I've seen a doctor about it and was prescribed Accutane so I am clear now). try answering my question though, I could use your advice!

No, your reason is understandable, you just don't want to get your feelings hurt is all, and appearance is a very delicate part for many people. If they're sincerely interested in your reasons, they sound like they care, a very good friendly quality.

It's not stupid at all, and you're certainly not the only person who's ever lost friends or been less sociable for reasons like that.
