Any new variant of an existing virus strain must be taken seriously. Covid-19 killed thousands and its new variant should of course also be taken seriously.

But if you have done your homework during the last pandemic and avoid a number of things that people do automatically, then you should be on the safe side.

Washing your hands frequently and disinfecting them after each contact with surfaces or after having shaken hands is the first barrier against another infection. Also, even if it does not look aesthetic, a face mask may be your best friend for a while when you are among others.

If you follow the basic hygiene tips, you should be fine.

Thank you for your informative opinion, and for reminding me of the precautions that I need to take.
I have a box of masks left over from the last COVID days, but I have moved since then and I don't know what my caregiver the thief did with them. She might have taken them too along with all of my other belongings.

The article I read about this variant said that the CDC is keeping a close watch on it.

Epidemics and pandemics have always existed and in a certain way shaped human history. That being said, science and health care are much, much better than just a century ago.

I don't know enough about this variant to give you an informed answer. I would think that if it catches you in good health, it shouldn't be a major worry.

If you look at history, Mother Nature has triggered an epidemic about every hundred years. We had our COVID-19 epidemic, and aren't due for another for several decades. I wouldn't worry about a cicada epidemic.

Some people will worry about anything... why the sky gets darker as the day goes on... it's called sunset. I prefer to live life.

If you follow common sense health safety precautions. Whenever possible. You should be able to decrease your chances of contracting covid. Now if only the people that don’t have common courtesy would cover their coughs and stay home when sick!

Of course not. Its just a regular cold flu at this point. When viruses mutate the varients that cause people not to stay home because they feel good enough to go to places are better. They spread further. Its not in a virus best interest to injure the host so mutations typically make them less bad.

Considering omnicron already wasn't worse than the flu I am not worried in the slightest.

Yes, I have already got a supply of masks and I am already practicing my social distancing and bought a case of hand sanitizer. I made an appointment at CVS for my booster shot.

I wouldn’t be worried to the point that you can’t live your life. But at the same time just take proper precautions. Wash hands, use rubbing alcohol, avoid people who appear or sound sick. I’m an everyone else on this, just another variant to scare us into being controlled. W that said yes it’s an actual thing even though it was made up so it does still exist. But I wouldn’t freak out about it. I didn’t take any of the vaccines, been through it before when I was in the military.

Viruses mutate to maximise transmissibility. Killing the host is bad for transmissibility. So they also tend to become less fatal over time.
