Are GLP-1 weight loss drugs becoming a new opioid-style crisis?

Have a look. The people who made this video contend that GLP-1 drugs are being misused by people to essentially create starvation situations for themselves akin to a prison camp as they chase some personal vision of "perfection". And just as in the case of prescription Opioids, the Pharmaceutical Industry is incentivizing medical professionals to write prescriptions for anyone who wants to buy.

Should government step in? Or do we go full Capitalism and let a free market decide when enough is enough? I'm personally of two minds. On the one hand, this is just as sad as opioid addiction or alcoholism. On the other hand, people need to take responsibility for their own bad decisions whether that be tobacco, alcohol, obesity, prescription drugs, or illegal drugs.

We can't put a public safety net around idiots 24X7 forever.

• Tax the shit out of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
• Hold medical providers to account for writing prescriptions irresponsibly.
• Add cost by providing counseling services to these people.
• Let the chips fall where they may for people hell bent on self destruction.

When I heard about the medical success of these drugs I immediately thought that this lowers the political pressure to regulate the food industry and the personal pressure to eat less and healthier.

Yeah another case of the pharmaceutical industry trying to solve a real problem associated with a real illness in diabetes only to find out that there was a much bigger and more lucrative market selling it as a weight loss miracle to people with no self control or appetite for exercise.

This really hit home when I saw the video. Last Friday night I was out for my usual debauchery with buddies and I noticed this tall Asian woman I've lots of times. She's tall at 5'7" to 5'8". And she's always dressed very sharp even when she's in jeans. I've think we've spoken a fee times but I really don't know her. A buddy told me a few months ago that she's recently divorced and on the prowl.

I never pay much attention to her but the other night she was standing maybe 6 feet away from me for a long time. And I noticed what used to be a really fit and trim, healthy looking body on a 50 year old woman was suddenly nightmarishly different. Her face was gaunt and sunken. She had no ass. Her breasts are basically gone. Her jeans and top were hanging off her frame. Her legs were like toothpicks. I thought maybe she has cancer or something. She used to be stunning. Now she's scary looking.

Then I saw this video today and did a dope slap. Age 50. Freshly divorced. Lives in a wealthy suburb of Manhattan. GLP-1 drugs. Duh. it really fits the profile for a lot of these women I run into.

So is diabetes, but GLP-1 drugs treat the symptoms, not the underlying problems. Weak lazy people are still weak lazy people with low impulse control after you give them a magic way to lose weight. If you take away the drug after they lose the weight they will go right back to bloated blimps with health problems. So they'll be dependent on these drugs for the rest of their life. They never learn proper nutrition or incorporate fitness into a lifestyle of gluttony. That's a HUGE WIN for the pharmaceutical industry. We are an instant gratification society of weaklings at this point.
