Do you think people should go into a mental hospital for sex addiction that’s out of control?

Let’s say they have lots of therapy at home and they are still sex addicts and nothing else works and they still cheat on their partner and won’t change at all. Should they be forced into a mental hospital for this? If nothing else works for their addiction?

A mental hospital is not meant for people with addiction it's a whole nother world and I don't care what type of addiction that you have you will have more than an addiction when you come out of a mental hospital because that's just the wrong place that will do you no service whatsoever except for give you paperwork stating that you've been in a mental hospital which is going to make you look bad no matter what you do or where you go if your parents are resorting to that to try to keep you safe they're doing more harm to you than they are helping you by taking you to a mental hospital that's totally wrong

And it's even more wrong if your parents are the one paying your therapist every time that you see her and if they are telling your therapist that they want you into a mental hospital and your therapist goes for it she is unethical and she should be fired and lose her license

What will happen in the mental hospital to cure the sex addiction? Why can that not be done on an outpatient basis?

The usual criteria for a psychiatric admission is that the patient must be a clear and present danger to self or others. In this context, danger refers to physical danger.

Since I been on locked psych clinics before. I will tell you this... sex happens there. Locking up sex addiction for treatment isn't treatment it's a Sadie hawkins dance.

No. They should probably go in voluntarily, but I don’t think they should be forced into treatment. Is this a man or a woman you’re talking about?

She’s much less likely to commit a sex crime which could get her forcibly committed than a man is. But yeah, I think she should get treatment, but I don’t support forcing her. Neither do the laws of most states.
