I mostly towel off in the shower. Then I lift one foot, dry it off, and step out onto the floor mat before drying my other foot off and stepping out completely. Once out, I dry myself more thoroughly.

Better to keep warm and dry off before stepping out. Being cold and wet can reduce your immune system.

After. In just seems illogical, as there is still moisture so nothing is drying. I always wrap myself in a towel and sit on my couch, or bed if it's a hotel

It depends on where I'm having a shower. If it is in my college locker room I towel off away from the shower. If it is in my dorm apartment I towel off in the shower.
