Should death row inmates get to have their 'last meal'?

It's customary to allow a death row inmate to have their 'last meal'

meaning they can choose whatever they want from McDonalds to lobster

One state got rid of this a while ago(they still get gruel or whatever they make in prisons)

But do you think they should have it or not, and why?

It was in Texas, it was got rid of as the person didn't eat any of his food

he ordered:

two chicken fried steaks, a triple meat bacon cheeseburger, a cheese omelet, a large bowl of fried okra, three fajitas, a pint of Blue Bell ice cream, and a pound of barbecue with a half loaf of white bread.

It's not necessary, and I'm sure some people don't "deserve" it, but I still think it's a pretty nice thing to do. I wish I had a better reason for being "for" it than that :P It does seem hypocritical that we're uncivilized enough to kill someone for killing, and then we give them a last meal as a humane gesture, maybe to make ourselves feel better about it.

It just seems "right" to let them have one last moment of getting what they want, I guess. it's hard to imagine how I would feel about it if I were in that situation, though. I probably wouldn't even have an appetite...

@update: Yeah I read about that XD I can totally imagine doing that just as a "f*** you" to the system, haha. Maybe there should just be a price limit.

I think they should... it's the least that they could do.

think of it this way no matter how much they order it wouldn't be as expensive as if they were kept in gaol for the rest of their pitiful life.

I think that they should be entitled to a last meal...within reason. They don't get some $500, 7-course meal. If they want a steak, fine, but they don't get steak AND scallops AND lobster AND...

Two sides (one veggie, one starch)

One dessert

One drink

I'm from Ontario and here is what you don't know: In the US prisoners overwhelm the system. They cost upwards of a billion dollars per year just to sustain them. There is so much overcrowding that many criminals are released back into society - and they continue being criminals. So the next time you say "human rights rock my socks" consider who's being released out of jail due to overcrowding and how many of your tax dollars are used to support a criminal.

It`s only the Old Testament mentality, which is very primitive and inhumane in every kind.

Statusone: if the government in question didn't "waste" its money on them, it would waste its money on something else so it doesn't matter to me how tax dollars are wasted, the effect is the same. Mismanagement. Pack in the criminals and if they kill each other then it's no longer the government's job.
