I've lost 50 pounds so far, and now all I need to do is get toned. what I'm doing right now is running. but in the new year I'm going to try hot yoga / birkam yoga, I've heard great things about it from so many people who have tried it. I highly recommend it. also. try this have 1 portions of carbs a day* and have 2 portions of dairy a day.
For example:
Morning: 7am : normal sized bowl of organic cereal (kamut cereal- its about 50 cals, says on back)
(optional:with a couple of blueberries or 2 chopped strawberries etc...
Lunch: 12 pm: a simple healthy salad.( you can find really low-cal ones online. I love the cucumber salad) then if you want an activia yogurt or fruit.
Afternoon:(again this is optional) handfull of berries or baby carrots.
Dinner: Another salad.
and more fruits.
also I sometimes have a granola bar( around 90-200) early in the morning if I'm working out :)
*I eat my carbs early in the day cause then I have time to burn it throughout the day.
If you tried something like this plan and did some hot yoga I garantee youd lose weight. I know I did.

How healthy is 'pretty' healthy? For diet, eat as many foods that are minimally processed as possible. I don't care if it's labeled as a health food or not, if you can't pronounce what's in it, it's not going to do good things to your body. Also, I'm a firm believer in eating until you are full, no more, no less. Your body knows you better than any calorie-counter will.
As for exercise, walking is terrific exercise! Try to find a friend who's willing to go on walks/adventures with you. It'll make the getting healthy so much more enjoyable. :)
Until your knee starts healing, it'd be best to purchase a knee-brace to help take some of the stress off your knee so you can prevent a lot of serious damange.
Best of luck! :)
theres a lot of good suggestions here, but not enough information from you..
Ive lost weight, I've gained lean muscle ( very hard to do) I've bulked up ( gained 20lbs in a month, 14 of it muscle), and trimmed down, having a six pack at 4 separate times in my life. and through all of it, learned a lot of different ways to manipulate my body.
counting calories, and specific excercises are the most important things.. but first, to get a better idea of how to follow through on your plan, how much do you weigh, how tall are you, and would you say you are.. thick ( like have some good muscle) or more... just overweight.. and also, what do you do during the day for work/recreation..?
all this will determine how to effectively answer your question
You shouldn't run a lot when you're overweight, that's for when you are already in halfway good shape. Aside from the fact that it sounds like you may have cartilage damage in the knee that will eventually need minor surgery.
Start with your diet and walking, short distances at first, then longer. Do core exercises on the floor at a gym with supervision. Swimming is great at this stage but it's not a good long term weight loss strategy because it tends to increase fat accumulation.
Low impact aerobics would be recommeneded at this stage. But yoour diet comes first. "Pretty healthy' won't cut it. You need a disciplined program such as provided by Weight Watchers.

Cardio is the most important exercise routine to endure to lose fatty tissues. Your case makes it rather difficult to do so. However, even then, you lose weight "after" the exercise as opposed to during it. Build your muscles and you'll lose weight.
You can also try going to the doctor and getting xrays on your knee to find out what exactly is the problem and what they suggest for cardio given your knee conditions.
I've always found that caffeine before exercise does wonders. Caffeine will improve your endurance while also allow fatty tissue to be metabolize faster. Running up and down the stairs does wonders (though I don't know how difficult that might be on your knee). You can also try hiking.id say stretch before working out to prevent injury. however knee injuries can't really be helped. I have a knee problem myself already at 23 *sigh*. I was thinking a knee brace may help, you can get one at any pharmacy over the counter. id also say to do resistance training to help tone and build your muscles. also with resistance training it won't build big bulky muscles that most women dread getting.
the more muscle you have the easier it is for your body to use the excess energy stored in your body. also 30 min of cardio activity a day, have to get your heart beat slightly above its comfort zone and sustain it for a minimum of 30 min a day. you can do cardio everyday. I myself prefer elyptical machines, its a very low impact exercise puts no stress at all in your kness, all the stress goes into your quads and thighs and calves and you bum. depending on your weight if you did 30 min of cardio everyday you could lose up to 2-4 pds a week.about your knee, don't trust doctors to diagnose a knee problem, they're just general practitioners. Go to a physiotherapist instead. I had knee pain, I went to the doctor and he said it was in good shape, nothing he could see. But the pain persisted. Turns out I needed orthotics (ie insoles to deal with flat footedness).
i hav this problem and I have been following a simple guideline...
start with just brisk walk, 40 minutes everyday
avoid fizzy drinks, rice, fried items and white carbs
eat green salads and steamed chicken or fish
only skimmed milk
a boiled egg and one slice of bran bread for a month...(breakfast)
one cheat day in a week
i lost 15 pounds in a month following that, soon after that just add more exercise as for your knee, see a specialist, not a general ward doctor, you'd be up and running in a few weeks...Running is the worst thing you can do if you have bad knees, but there are sports that don't impact on the legs, like swimming, biking, yoga, walk more places, do some research, you ll find something. exercise is absolutely key to loosing weight, Don't let yourself off the hook so easily.
The reason there is an obesity epidemic is because people simply don't move.DANCE! First off it's fun and can be done in your own room you don't nee to be inpublic which is something I don't like I fel self conscious working out in front of strangers. Or if you have a WII or something they have tons of new games for dancin. Personally I'm really picky and don't like veggies so I essentially eat protein and dance like constantly which I love to do anyway. There is probably a heathier way to do it but it's pretty fun.
Swimming, calisthenics, virtually any kind of sport (except those that are too silly to be classified as sports...such as golf, darts, etc). I'll have to say calisthenics is the best option though because you don't have to go anywhere to do them, you can just stay in the comfort of your home, and there are so many forms of movement you can do that works out different muscles/burns fat from different parts of your body!
Losing weight is a matter of lifestyle. One summer, I lost 35 pounds in two months. I ate totally unhealthy food, but my lifestyle was completely active. I would walk and run everywhere, lift things, play sports, work out, etc.
The formula is pretty simple. Burn more calories than you take in. Find something and stick with it.
Good luck!Count calories , seriously its the only way. One pound of fat equals to 3500 calories , your body probably burns 2000 calories in aday , so eat like 1200 or 1500 and count the calories saved , you will have a deficit and see how many more calories you need to save until you reach your goal.
I lost 65 pounds in a year , YES I did excercise but mainly I counted wHat I ate and burnt and got my magic weightloss number.
Good Luck :DEat 1200 calories a day to lose weight as a sedentary female. If you are used to eating much more, you might start with 1500 and then work your down. Use those calories wisely -- lots of protein and fiber. Don't eat very much sugar or carbs (pasta, potatoes, bread). I use my fitness pal to track what I'm eating. Also, you don't have to start out with high impact exercise. Walking, yoga, swimming, pilates, etc.
you have to build muscle in order to burn fat more so lift weights or something, also take really hot baths and I mean really hot, they can help with joint problems and they also tighten your skin so it gets rid of all the loose skin you have
Yeah, but it gets complicated. If you want to discuss here, we need to know your age, weight, typical diet, how often you blow over that, activity level. If you'd prefer to just message me or whatever, go ahead.
Eat healthier. The internet is rich with sources of information on what's good and what's bad.
Here's a tip though. Don't eat things that are advertised as "healthy", usually they are not, hence why they need to be labeled that way.Swimming. Its great TOTAL body workout and NO tension on your knees or other bones.
Cut back on laying around, don't run, maybe a walk, and cut out fried foods out as much as you can, and cut out fast food all together.I you put cheese on your food, use less, melted cheese is fatty and greasy. eat out less, because alomst none of the food is actually healthy. hope this helps
swimming is great exercise if you have joint problems.
