Don't cut to many calories or your metabolism will slow down. Figure out how many calories your supposed to have a day and have 300 less. Never skip meals especially breakfast. Your breakfast should be about30% of your total intake. Have a small snack like an apple, yogurt, or almond between meals. it's more about how you eat than what you eat, but obviously don't eat anything stupid. for exercise it's best to do a mix of cardoon and weights if you want I can suggest you a few good books.

Avoid trans fats and fried food. Be active, either at the gym or playing sports or both. If you genuinely change your lifestyle the weight will come off. Be patient, it doesn't happen overnight if you are going about it the right/healthy way.
Lettuce,focus on aerobics, like running,jogging, or swimming. Just stick to low calorie foods. 2,000 calorie diet. maybe 1,500. Drink lots of water, avoid processed foods (although that is hard to do.)
Muffin top is caused by pants that don't fit...if you get bigger sized pants you shouldn't have that problem(from experience)

You could go to a weight doctor. There you would receive diet pills, and information on healthy dieting.
