If you're going to call someone skinny whether or not you mean it as a compliment, it's most probably going to be taken the wrong way, try using slim/slender if you mean well, thanks!

Like many words, whether it's a compliment or an attack depends upon the context it is used in and the motives of the person saying it.

If a person is naturally thin and desiring to gain weight, calling them skinny would likely be an insult. If a person was heavier and working to lose weight, calling them skinny would almost certainly be a compliment, assuming it was said sincerely and not sarcastically.

Like most conversations, context is everything.

Well, if I tell someone she looks skinny it's a compliment but if a girl is too skinny, it's not a compliment. Like if I'm talking to someone else about how skinny she is, it usually means it looks like she's made literally of only skin and bone. And that's REALLY REALLY thin bone.

From what I've been told, I'm rather skinny, which I take as acompliment. But when people call me, or should I say 'used' to call me a "stick" I took it as something negative and somewhat as an insult, Because 1, I'm not and 2, I see myself rather on the thicker side

If you a tell a guy he's skinny, its an insult. Guys are supposed to be big and strong. The same does not apply for girls so I can't speak for them.

Im not skinny so I would not be called that instead ide be called fat but I wish I was skinny and if someone said that it would be a complainant for me. Some girls are just lucky to be that way.

I tend to use say "you look fit" or healthy because to me skinny is someone who you can see their ribs and bones because they can't afford food or chose not to eat.

Comes down to the tone of whoever says it. if I were to insult someone, I'd say stickly, As I consider that slimmer than Skinny.
