Is it normal to recently get severe cramps?

the last 3 months I've been getting really bad cramps. They wake me up in the middle of the night. It is only during the first day of my period, it was painful before just not like this, it has never waked me up before. Is this normal? Or do you think I need to see a doctor?

I suppose you could go see a doctor if you wanted to, but I doubt anything is wrong. I get them pretty badly also. They wake me up sometimes. When I was in HS, many times I wouldn't go to school the day they came because they hurt so badly. Many times to the point of puking. I could be in tears because of them. Take some Midol and hope for the best. Also, hot water bottles work for me. You may want to try them. Best of luck. And remember, they're only bad for a day. I think you can handle one day a month of pain, don't you? But if you want to treat it, a doctor may describe the pill or something. Best of luck.

I use to get cramps so bad I would throw up. It is normal but you shouldn't have to live with the pain. Birth control pills can help with cramps. Also try taking Advil the night before it can help. Sometimes tucking your knees into your chest and rolling side to,side helps too.

Were these severe cramps accompanied by feeling cold and/or sweating/fever (possibly on and off), nausea and/or vomiting, and feeling faint/weak/dizzy? If so, then it could very well be polycystic ovaries, an ovarian cyst, or endometriosis just as Sweet 18 said.

If it continues definitely see a doctor.

No that's no normal. You have an ovarian cyst or Endometriosis which is more serious.
