Overall impression of the 2012 Olympics?!

The Olympics will be over tomorrow!

I am actually surprised in how much I watched.

What I liked about it: Watching track and field (the American women setting a new world record for the 4 x 100m relay), gymnastics, and synchronized swimming.

What I didn't like about it:

It felt like NBC wouldn't acknowledge Canadian athletes, and would always talk about America vs some other country. (and yes I know since it is an American network, they will focus on American athletes)

- People who couldn't even begin to do what Gabby douglas( gold medalist in gymnastics) accomplished who went on twitter to bash her about her 'messy' hair. Also Fox news was saying her leotard wasn't patriotic enough.

- Ryan Lochte's douche factor went up this year (his American flag grill) :P

ps If youstill haven't got this, I am Canadian but live in the states, and I also don't want to hear about how many medals America has to justify why there is more coverage about them, because I know at least one person will bring it up.

+ I always loved the Olympics, no matter what (the ratings tend to agree with me)

+ The fact that I have summers off allows me to watch Olympics all day (even late night)

+ Gymnastics and BMX are probably my favorite events to watch...mostly because they are such high risk sports

+ NBC's coverage of London's history and sites and sounds of London.

- NBC's coverage of athletes from other countries was very limiting. Don't get me wrong, I do understand that NBC is an American company, but the Olympics coverage should have some back stories from people of other countries. I don't want to see another Phelps or Usain Bolt background story...I wanted to see someone else I've never heard of from a country I never heard of.

- NBC's coverage, or lack thereof, of the gold medal soccer game. They put it on NBCSN, which nobody watches (so they could promote the channel), and gave us the gold medal match of women's water polo. I'm not knocking WP, but we all know what the country wanted to watch. And to put salt on the wound, they interviewed the soccer players, showed the national anthem and didn't even mention the gold medal winning water polo team in prime time. In fact, ABC's Good Morning American took initiative to interview the water polo team.

- For someone who doesn't have any cable or satellite TV, I couldn't get a stream of any live event.

Other than that, I've always enjoyed the games, no matter who covers them. I think NBC gets a bit too much criticism sometimes, but overall I think they did a pretty good job.

It felt kind of weird compared to Beijing. I think it is because we had the whole Michael Phelps craze back then, and even though the US had many great athletes with great story lines there wasn't the one athlete who was the huge face of the US team, maybe Gabby Douglas?

I felt like NBC focused too heavily on only a few sports. I usually watched during the night, and I felt like I watched a pretty good amount. But I felt it was all swimming and gymnastics the first week, and all track and diving the next week. There were tons of events I never heard mentioned at all. Maybe I just missed them, but I got tired of the same few sports.

Although the US had the most medals by far, it just felt kind of underwhelming. I just went and looked at the events we got gold in. It's 90 percent swimming, track, and gymnastics. Probably the reason NBC focused so heavily on those events. Those sports also use many of the same athletes for multiple events. Which is why I felt like I was getting a bit of Deja vu seeing the same athletes in similar events almost every night.

Overall impression: Good. As all Olympics generally are. I watched as much as I could. Canada could have done way, way, way better though, in terms of medals. I mean, what the f*** happened there.

I am shocked how little I watched. I was super excited before it began. I watched the first two or three days, though. I was busy all the time.

I only watch it for 5 minutes when I walk past the TV hoping someone would mess up. But they don't and I continue on with whatever I'm doing.

I LOVED it! Especially when the little black girl, Gabby. Won for the U.s.
