Then I read this story about a woman getting a ticket, extra for wearing this.

Do you think people should be able to drive while wearing this?
While driving, YES. People don't need another hi-tech gadget to argue with while driving. Especially when MOST people can't drive when doing nothing but driving. If people can show me that they can drive normally, then I might have another outlook on this. But I get too many people merging without a signal. Crossing a solid white line to merge or so fourth. Zooming. Cutting in front of me to make me brake harder and burn up my brakes. Cutting in front of me, slamming on their brakes to make a right hand turn in from of me, making me slam on my brakes when there is eternity behind me they could have done that behind me. And GREEN means you can GO now.
If people could do these things, plus the other that I can't think of right now, than that will make me change my mind. But until then, I don't think people need another distraction especially when technology isn't that great. I can see this "speak command to be a disaster", I have had a phone that you can talk into and it constantly mis understood me. "I said send email" "Let me get this right, You want to play with a snail" "No I said send email". Same with touch screens. They never work. How many times have you gone to an ATM and hot the "Withdraw" button to only have to hot it 4,5,6 times? All the time.
And I mean YES it should be banned.
My answer is yes.
I got news for anyone who says no. The future of wearable electronics is huge. Within the next decade we'll be integrating displays in our contacts. Within the next two or three decades we'll be interfacing these devices directly with our brains (the "display" will be injected directly into our nervous system).
The only trade off is that as these technologies emerge other technologies like self driving cars will become more popular and eventually human error eliminated.
I do research in this area.
Personally, I've always thought that people who can obviously text and drive successfully should be able to do it with no issues whatsoever. I've seen people who text and drive and look like they're drunk off their booty...but then again, I've also seen people who text and drive and can do so without ever taking their eyes off of the road or even so much as beginning to swerve into the opposite lane/ditch/whatever. People are always comparing texting and driving to driving under intoxication, but really, I don't think those two things are similar. So, really, I see no reason why people should not be allowed to wear Google glasses if they are able to do so without driving erratically.
No, it is too much of a distraction. Too much is at risk when you are not reasonable behind the wheel, your undivided attention should be given to the road. Thus, people should not operate motorvehicles while intoxicated, on certain medication, texting, or have on google glasses. In only takes a second to claim someones life whether by accident or intention. At least you will know if you were to blame for any accident you have nothing to blame but yourself/mishap. Not drugs, alcohol, google glasses, or texting.

I suppose it depends what they're using it for.
There's actually a lot of potential for something like Google Glass to make driving safer - for example, the iRoad smartphone app ( link ) uses the phone's camera to detect when you're too close to the vehicle in front, are wandering into a different lane, etc - something like that would work very well with Google Glass (apps could also show information such as a sat-nav directions, parking cameras, speed, etc, without the driver having to take their eyes off the road).
Obviously if they're reading emails off the screen (not using text-to-speech) or something, that's not good.
No, they shouldn't. I mean, yeah, you can still have your eyes partially on the road, so compared to texting it's a small step in the right direction. But I still think this is kind of like using your phone when you're driving. It's stupid and it takes some of your attention away from the road when you should be 100% focused on nothing but driving (and maybe listening to the radio). Why would you need it while driving anyway? My family's good old GPS works just fine, and it costs so much less than google glass, so trying to argue that google glass is needed for its maps is dumb.
I never said anything about fiddling with the radio, I only talked about listening to it. You can fiddle with it all you want before you drive off to where you're headed. Also, our GPS has that voice thing that just tells you where to go, so you don't even have to look at it. And if you do have to look at it, a quick glance is all that's needed, while google glass is constantly attached to your face.
Yes.
But then again, totally depends on what they are using it for.
For GPS, this would be awesome (as long as Apple Maps couldn't be used ;) )
But it's been said that people need to have both hands on the wheel every time they are driving and not listening to radio and not communicating to passengers ...weeeeeeelllll, I bet many totally disregard that.
Although I've had one passenger many times that just doesn't sh-t up; I started to zone the passenger out, and just nodded and said "yes" from time to time, but that didn't affect my driving
No, people should not be allowed to. It's a distraction. No matter how good a driver you are, your attention should always be on the road--you should never let yourself wander while driving. I don't think this is any exception. It will likely slow response time if being used since the drivers mind will be elsewhere.
So yes, I think the woman did deserve her ticket. I also think the Google Glass shows how cripplingly dependent we are becoming to the Internet. Lets face it, what's more important, checking your Facebook or making sure you don't wreck?
No. They shouldn't be allowed to use them at all. They should be made to live in the woods for a year without any electronic gadgets at all. Then maybe they will learn how to be human again instead of being a cyborg. They will learn that the world is full of beautiful things, likes birds flying in the sky, trees blowing in the breeze, water tumbling over rocks and crickets chirping in the night.
Helicopter pilots in the military fly their machines with another view in one of their eyes, so what harm could come from being firmly on the ground with one? link
Haha nah, normal people are freakin stupid and can't even be trusted to drive their cars well anymore. They don't need any more distractions.
There is like nothing wrong with that, like seriously, everyone says no, WELL, I DISAGREE WITH ALL OF YOU, except the people who said Google glass should be allowed, nothing's wrong with that!!! I wear it to drive!!!
No, I don't think we should be able to wear this while driving.
Hasn't everyone already seen the result of talking/texting while driving. They just made that illegal, why find another way for people to be distracted while driving...
No. People are not allowed to drive while using Ipods, cell phones and gameboys. What makes the Glass an exception?
No, beacuse they could be distracted and not look at the road.
why not? how the hell is the officer gonna prove it was on?
The article says that it wasn't turned on, but that the officer argued that it was partially blocking her view. His argument sounds kind of weak but there's still a pretty good question in there of just how distracting Google Glass might be while driving.
(Personally I don't understand why she'd wear it while driving if she didn't have any intentions of using it.. should've just left it off.)
if she gets a lawyer who isn't a retard she will win that part easy, because even if she chose to wear it if its off its not a "monitor distracting her".
Youre right though, if she wasn't using it why wear it..
yes, as long as your not an idiot, be alert and aware of your surroundings... don't be doing stupid crap on it.
Well, with your thinking. How are idiots are supposed to be weeded out? Nobodys going to say, "I can't use while I drive this because I am an idiot". No, that is what idiots do, that do idiotic things, use devices when they are supposed to be driving, and they are hitting me on the road because now they are an idiot two times over, one for using a device while driving and one because they can't do a simple think like drive.
How the hell are cops going to see a tiny silver line on your face..? My point is there is no controlling it, it's a lot better than texting too because you can still have your eye's on the road... what happens when they make a device that is completely see through?(soon it will be implanted in our brains.. lol) I think you can't fight technology it just keeps getting smarter... and idiots are idiots obviously don't use it when there is a lot of traffic, use common sense, etc.
that being said, I wouldn't use anything that distracted me while driving such as google glass, but I am also a new driver and not confident on the road. If I was a better driver and on a road trip for example and on an empty road it would be nice to search directions without having pulling over or typing things into the gps.
No . That would be dangerous.
No
