It should last years if unused, every few months if used, from what I've read, the British museum in bloomsbury london would know the exact specifics though since they invented it.

Should protect all metals from rust as it creates a waterproof seal.

But maybe look for a warning label on the website or the wax itself, if there is a risk and doesn't mix well with certain metals and alloys it should be made obvious.
