If there was an exceptional musical artist that has Aspergers and says highly controversial things, should they be canceled or allowed to flourish?

That's up to their fans. Cancel culture is a myth, really. The only way it kind of works is if an artist's fans discover the artist is basically the opposite of who the hint at being in their art, and so the art is abandoned by the fans. But if someone comes out of the gate saying exactly what they mean there is no possibility of that occuring. Of course it is entirely possible they get no fans in the first place - them and a million other aspiring artists with no fans, then. No one is owed reach.
Cancel culture is stupid no matter who it is.
Friedrich Gulda was like that, he used to drive orchestra players crazy, they'd never allow it now
Being autistic doesn’t give you a pass for being an asshole that’s racist/sexist/ableist
If you don't mind, I'd like to play devil's advocate. So, why not? Do you also expect those with down syndrome to be independent and hold a stable job and make a living wage?
Yes, because they do
I'm genuinely shocked by this response, and I almost can't take it seriously, and I don't think you are either. What percentage of people with down syndrome do you think meet that criteria?
Don’t know, but I do know that downs, much like autism, has a spectrum of its own. Some are invalids who require constant care, others are the same as any able-bodied person able to happily live life with a job, a spouse, some kids, and a house.
Which is precisely why both of your responses aren't reasonable, right?
It's absolutism. Yet now you're expressing their nuance.
If a great degree of down syndrome results in, with all due respect, incompetence, you wouldn't expect them to be independent and have successful careers like the average person.
In the same vein, you wouldn't expect someone heavily inhibited by autism (aspergers) to have proper social skills.
No, but not knowing the difference between sarcasm and someone speaking normally doesn’t excuse blatant bigotry when they know it’s wrong. If it’s a matter of ignorance, then they can be educated.
What sarcasm are you referring to? Considering that I've not expressed bigotry and the example of the person with aspergers didn't regard sarcasm, I don't understand the point you're making. Like, you couldn't be referring to me or the example.
And if Aspergers is just a matter of ignorance and education, why hasn't aspergers been cured by educated those with the condition, as you suggest here?
By educating those*
The reference to sarcasm was an allude to how people on the spectrum struggle with social cues. Not a personal attack on you. And education does not “cure” autism or asperger’s syndrome, but it makes it easier for them to find ways to communicate that don’t immediately alienate them. Also, your “devil’s advocate” is getting very unpleasant and this is the last I’m going to say on the subject matter. I hope the remainder of your life has good memories you cherish until its end.
The same goes for you, I appreciate the civility.

If you think merely because someone suffers from Asperger's they can get away with saying whatever they like, you'd be wrong! That's like saying anyone in a wheelchair can rob from a bank!
Nope. Laws that are there, are there for everyone and I say that because of those people I know who have inflictions and ailments hate being treated differently to everyone else.
It depends upon the fan base that the artist appeals to.
cancel for certain stuff
What do they say?
