Why would you go to see a musician who you have opposing views to just to then leave when they preach those views at their show?

This all came from Halsey with people a few people leaving after she chanted pro choice views in her concert. She's pretty left and not exactly quite about it so to me it's just very dumb to support someone who say's such things to then leave when she say's it in person lol.
It would be like been a bush fan then going to see Eminem then getting upset at his song "Mosh"

I probably don't share many of the same views with most musicians I listen to, or have seen in concert. The thing about taking the time and money to go to a concert though, is people go there to be entertained, and by extension for escapism. When an entertainer pauses the show to b*tch about the current thing, it ruins the experience even when you agree with it, or when it's apolitical. It's one thing to crack some jokes and stall time between performances, but people go to church or rallies to be preached to, not concerts, and when a musician wants to voice their views on political stuff, they will reach far more people in a far more receptive space on social media.

The best concerts I've ever been to weren't even my favorite music; they were the best because it was a good show that kept moving, and kept the event about the music and the audience.

Hard disagree there, you can keep the concert going by expressing such things. It hypes people up gives them a "Fuck yeah!!" moment. Many song creators often get successful because of their relatability it would be counterproductive not to say something your crowd vibe and relate to.

I don't want musicians spouting political views whether I agree with them or not. I want to enjoy the music, not get into politics. I want to get away from politics, not hear more of it.

Even with musicians whose music itself is highly political, I just want to hear the music, not rants.

It's not expected. I've been to a lot of concerts including some people known for political music. I have never had any of them preach or even bring up politics.

Weird. I have never not be to concert without them, and it's a major thing for artists to promote their views in there works. Literally millions examples of this.

Yea, it's changed. I've heard a lot about it in recent years ( for me that means 10-20 years :) )

It's just not something I've experienced. And I doubt if the bands I like do it today either.

Just off the top of my head, Bob Dylan was/is one of the most political people out there for my age group. He didn't say a word in concert. Willie Nelson doesn't have political songs, but he is well known for being a political activist outside of music. He didn't say a word either.

Hmm odd. These days artists are very interactive with the crowd and often play into the fact we all follow the artist because we are likeminded, today I went to a gig and the band is well known it was a good full venue with everyone knowing the words. They talked about sending a middle finger to Putin lol. Which we all cheered at.
It would be weird to not expect that from artists these day's at least from ones I listen to. The only ones that don't often to be the rubbish bands who come on don't bother with talking to the crowd and just playing which to me is yeah meh.
It's just odd that someone else wouldn't guess something like that would happen. Then nvm if it's an artist who created a song about it or has been tweeting about it a lot. Feels like they showed up not realising these artists are not the type to to be quite but if one listen to there stuff and actually followed them they would know this.

It's possible that concerts have changed because they serve a different purpose than they used to. I've heard older musicians talk about it. Every one of the old timers I've heard talk about it say that it's harder for young musicians to make a living today.

Music used to be album oriented, with tours supporting album sales. Now with people spending a buck on one song instead of buying an entire album, the only way to make a living is to constantly tour. I'm not sure how that would change what you are talking about, but it does change the entire idea of touring.

Most likely it's just because times have changed.

Well that's a more tricky issue since it involves a bit more than just words. But I do agree somewhat. You don't have to watch house of cards if you really don't like Kevin Spacy that's a personal choice to watch the show or not (Great show by the way his acting is great and the writing is perfect even if I do hate him otherwise) so therefore there is no reason to take down.
However the more tricky part is if he will finically gain from it. You want to watch the show because it's great but then are funding a bad guy like him. If he gains nothing from it then it becomes fine.
So I think that more becomes under the issue of you want to watch it to appreciate the hard work of everyone else but the problem child of the show/film. Which becomes a lot more complex than just don't see it.
So overall I think that's a different comparison that has some more complexities to it.

I think if I boycotted every musician that did not share my political views I would never see anyone. Averone in show biz is a liberal except for Clint Eastwood. And if they are not liberals they pretend to be because they know they would be blacklisted.
