Why do people get drunk or stoned at concerts?

I realize that this might seem like a dumb question, but I'm really interested to know why people do this. I said in a recent post that I went to see Black Sabbath when they came to down a few nights ago.

I'm not a heavy drinker and I have no desire to smoke weed at all. However, even so, I can think of two reasons off the top of my head why I wouldn't do these things at a concert if I did them at all.

First, I think it's disrespectful to the musicians. They've poured their hearts and souls into the music. They've spent the time writing, rehearsing, recording, and promoting the music. Now they're spending time away from their homes, their families and friends, and other interests outside the band to travel around the world and perform for their fans, which HAS to be very stressful. Not to mention their crews and the concert venue staff who have to set up for the show, tear everything down when it's over, and of course, clean up.

Second, I've spent money on the show, perhaps a large amount (as I did for this one). Why would I want to spend that much money on a concert only to be obliterated that either 1) I wouldn't be focused on the show and able to enjoy it or 2) get ejected for picking a fight with other fans or security? Additionally, I've given up my own time to go to this show when I could have done other things with my friends or just relaxed at home after a hard day's work? It would have been a waste of my time and money to do these things.

Obviously, NOT everyone who goes to concerts do this and it doesn't happen at every concert. Still though, I'd like to know. Why do people get drunk and/or stoned at concerts?
