Anyone gotten into dancing after a broken leg?

7 months post surgery, doing fine, have a temporary titanium plate and 12 screws, but have no discomfort and feel like myself, healing all well.

Really want to get back to my passion of dancing, I wonder in my shoes, would you learn dancing?

I hear the music and I can’t stop, so I might as well get back into it as I already dance, just I try not to do too much on my leg, the bone healing takes a year and just in case, being careful.

I have not had such an injury ( Thankyou Buddah krub ) , but on my understanding I encourage you , however just keep in mind , that formal dancing can be a little like Netball , so you do need to be extremely careful..

Now , we also must compare ourselves , you are younger than both my daughters , so you have a lot of living to do , you have great habits , and activity and you eat really well and understand diet , so you can live a VERY long time , and during that time you will need to move a lot..

If you get my drift , remember I'm 63 , and if I don't have an accident , I'd like to live another 40 plus years.

I haven't, no, but it seems like a logical thing. And that it might help as a form of physical therapy, but I SAID MIGHT, AND I AM NOT A PHYSICIAN, ESPECIALLY NOT YOURS; TALK TO THEM!

I have the same injury as you and with 12 screws and metal plate inside.

its been 6 years. I am walking well and it healed well … but took 2 years.
I was happy to wear heels in the beginning… now not so easy since I walk a lot… I am mostly in my comfy sneakers now.
are your stitches still kinda purple?

Wow! Nope, my scar looks like a mosquito bite now, almost invisible, nobody can tell I had a surgery, some don’t believe, as they can’t see scars, I had a very good surgeon.

It’s been 6-7 months since break and I’ve been wearing heels sometimes, though nothing higher than 7 cm as I am scared. I have same as you, 12 screws!

Have you had a hardware removal? I am thinking of getting it after a year.

My injury was a lot more serious… I have two scars, each scar is about 12 inches long (one front and one side). Took much longer to heal.

I was told by my surgeon that I may need another surgery in my 60s. yes, it is an option to get the hardware removed, however, that would mean another surgery. I don’t think I want another surgery.

What did your surgeon said regarding how it will be removed?

I injured my leg as a teenager while I was doing ballet as a hobby. I was on crutches for a couple of weeks and had to wear a knee brace for weeks

But I still started dancing again long before I was told I was safe to. It was just part of who I was back then.

These days I do a lot more than I'm supposed to be able to do on a prosthetic but dancing hasn't been part of it so far

I would go back to sports

like many athletes do...

I never broken any bones so I don't know what it would be like in your shoes, how long does it take for the bones to gain the strength that the stress put on them while dancing won't cause damage or breakage?

If you have a compound fracture of that nature, I would recommend not doing anything to slow the healing process. As to when you can start dancing, you doctor and physical therapist will know your injury better than I ever could.

He told me I can live a normal life, run jog and jump but no strenuous activity a bit longer to assure the bone’s full healing before risk.

So jogging and jumping are okay? I guess it depends on what type of dancing you are planning to do.
