I was told once that back in the 20's, 30's, & 40's, drinking was basically a given or prerequisite for any social setting, anyone who knew how to have fun that is.

Certainly not. Maybe she doesn't like the taste of alcohol or is a recovered (recovering) alcoholic. Maybe she was traumatized by an alcoholic parent.
I wouldn't force booze on her.

I wouldn't want to be with someone who was a party girl or a lush, either.

I'll admit that it's nice when someone enjoys a quality wine on occasion. That's a sign of sophistication. Even having a cocktail or two and getting a bit happy and uninhibited can be fun.

But not drinking alcohol isn't a deal breaker for me unless it's for religious reasons. Then it would be the religiousness and not the alcohol that would make us incompatible.

I should say that I wouldn't pressure someone who'd had a troubled past, but I do think this current generation needs to loosen up and learn how to have fun again and I think alcohol in moderation could certainly help.

I married a sober alcoholic and did not drink while I was married to her. No alcohol in the house, no meeting the boys down at the bar, nothing. Our divorce was not caused by alcohol.
