Does a parent have a right to not allowed other people to take pictures of their kids?

So my wife and I we took our kids to this church event our first time. They had a Santa handing out crayons and coloring books. At first I tough it was only parents that could take the picture when we sit out kids with Santa strangers and people I don't even know take out their phones and wanted to take pictures of our kids. I had to be a cheer captain and say no pictures please. Since when is this okay? This should be illegal for people to take pictures of other people's kids.

Yes, you also have the right to decide who is allowed to take a picture from yourself.

There are some exceptions, celebreties and other poeple of the public (politicians, athletes, ...) can be photographed, as it would be too much if everyone asked for permission beforehand (even though some paparazzi take it ten steps too far when taking photos of their private lives.)

And group photos are also excluded.

At least thats what is like in germany, your regional laws may differ.

However kids should always be off limits, otherwise you may never know where the photo may end up.

Yes it’s their child they have legal guardianship (this is just my opinion).

I do believe it's okay for kids to have rights to tell people their boundaries.
I really never understand that whole B's oh respect adults regardless of whatever happens. No I tell my kids if someone is mean to you they don't deserve you're respect.

Yes I agree! I feel like some kids are scared to tell adults no. (I used to be very shy so that could be how some kids feel.) People are crazy to be taking pics of your kids without permission.
