What is one thing about the holiday season you don't like?

For me it's all the commercials on TV asking people to donate to charities. I'm not talking about toy drives or meal drives (those actually help people close to home), I'm talking about ads for like Shriners, ASPCA, Wounded Warrior, etc... I'm not saying they don't help nor do good because I know people who benefited from some of those groups. But the blatant asking for specifically $19 a month while you get a blanket or T shirt is kinda annoying. Not to mention they make it really emotional. I get it's a giving season, but I feel like charities should begin in our own hometown.

Consumerism in general. In the USA in the 20th century, Christmas became a phenomenon. Gift-giving is such a widely celebrated event in the Western world that huge industries have grown up around it.

The expectation of exchanging presents with everyone you know got out of hand. In America, especially when the economy was booming after WWII, children received expensive gifts instead of home-made toys, clothes, or sweets. Department stores and TV commercials encouraged people to buy, buy, buy. By for relatives, buy for friends.

I consider Christmas a solstice celebration like those that have been celebrated by most cultures since before "civilization". It follows the abundance of the Fall harvest and is a welcoming of the return of the sun, gradually longer and warmer days, and the promise of Spring.

I do enjoy the colored lights and decorations. They are warm and merry. I'm not into the religious stuff, but I can appreciate warmly lit churches, steeples, and earnest people in their best winter clothes singing hymns and carols. I love old timey images of horse-drawn sleighs, homes surrounded by snow with warm light shining through the windows. I love cozy fires, Christmas trees, and a table set with holiday food. The smell of gingerbread cookies, pies, fresh bread, hot coco, spiced apple cider, roasted meat.

Christmas is a celebration of Winter magic. It's a shame that it has been turned into nothing more than a time to buy stuff.

I love what has been termed "the spirit of the season" as best illustrated by Charles Dickens in A Christmas Carol. I wish people embodied generosity, warmth, kindness, gratitude, cheerfulness, charity, and good will every day.

At present, being completely alone, not being able to have it at MY house anymore and the fact that most people these days shove it down your throat from about 2 weeks BEFORE Halloween to the stroke of midnight Christmas night instead of waiting `til; early Dec. to get into it and enjoying it into the new year!

The decoration in the garden of other people - too much light at night (light Pollution) and too much waste of Energy. Money is enough here for such things? So they don't need to say that they are poor and don't get enough money from the German state or their Work...

People trying to go out of their way to be good to people and focus on good teachings for one month and only one month when it should be how we all should act everyday. Not just over a heavily commercialized holiday.

I think Christmas is too commercial, it should be reserved just for Children.

Fakeness, the endless talk about mind-numbing Christmas movies and music. The pointless act of gift giving. The fake god worship etc.
