Stockings aren't a thing here in germany.
We open presents on the 24th, in the evening, usually after dinner.
And than again on 25th and sometimes 26th, also in the evening, depending on family and how many grandparents there are and how they spend first and second Christmas day.
The only "child" I have is Uncle Thunder, my cat and mouser extraordinaire! He doesn't open stockings, but I will probably feed him some turkey on Christmas Day.
I don't have kids yet but I'm certainly doing it when I have kids. My mom always did it for us.
Absolutely right we do... They've even got their names on them.

I let my rescue kittens open one present each on Christmas Eve.
Each person in my house has a stocking that they get on Christmas morning. But it has always been a rule that the stockings and the presents can't be touched until everyone is up and in the living room.
My kids are grown now, but when they were little, they usually checked out their stockings as soon as they got up. We had a rule that no presents could be opened until everyone was up, then we opened one present at a time.
My dogs have bone shaped stockings. 😎🐕
