I think that's one of the things that I think is cool about the US is that you are really more free and you don't judge people on that.

Well, not sure what "other comfortable styles" means, but I have never gone to the store - or anywhere else for that matter - in my pajamas. Plus the fact that I have not worn pajamas since I was a small boy.
Leaving that aside, it is sweet that you think that it is "cool" that people in the USA go to stores and other public places in pj's and other informal attire. Truth be told though - and yes, here I am going to be the snobby wet blanket - it is not really cool, it is just slovenly.
It following that we shape our habits and our habits shape us. Thus the tendency - of actually fairly recent vintage in American culture - to, for lack of a better term, "under-dress" merely reinforces the bad habits that such bad habits suggest. Slovenly behavior conduces to slovenly behavior and back again.
Having said that, I have seen plenty of people dressed in pajamas and ripped t-shirts and dirty jeans and other such attire. It is indicative of the times.
Sorry to be the wet blanket, but I am old enough to recall a time when people had standards. Suffice to add, we could use them now.
P. S. Okay, my temper tantrum out of the way, I also wanted to let you know that I will get to your "MyTake" tomorrow or Tuesday. Looking forward to it.
What I find "cool" is the fact that you Americans don't judge people, you are open-minded, enthusiastic, etc.
I can assure you that in France according to your style of dress etc you will be judged, criticized etc.
But to be honest with you, personally I would never dress in pajamas or with an outfit with a hole in it etc to go out, first because my parents would disown me and second because I love fashion too much for that
Well, never forget, as G. K. Chesterton said, "The purpose of an open mind, like an open mouth, is to close it down again upon something hard."
To be sure, for the most part, inappropriate attire does not deserve jail time, but tolerance for such attire - among other things - has led to a general decline in standards. Americans don't judge people - which is fine only depending upon that which you are not judging.
My point is that such tolerance of low standards conduces to the acceptance and ultimately the adoption of low standards. I agree with you about many of the qualities you ascribe to Americans, but like any good thing, it can be taken too far.
At the moment, the nation is suffering much because it has accepted low standards as just "doing your own thing." See also America's declining test grades. See also the absolutely cockeyed discussion about sexuality, in which biological facts are suddenly supposed to be seen as nothing but a matter of opinion. The list goes on.
As to you, mom and dad raised you well. Beyond that, I have no doubt that you are a fashion plate par excellence!! I vote you as G@G's best dressed for 2023!!
I don’t wear pajamas to bed. I just wear boxer shorts. That wouldn’t fly in any store where I live. When I’m lounging around the house I often wear sweatpants and a t-shirt without shoes or socks if I’m not planning on going out. If someone is over and they want me to take a quick ride down to the corner store or something, I wouldn’t have an issue riding in the passenger seat to keep them company dressed like that if I’m not going inside, but if I’m going anywhere in public I’ll take a couple minutes and get dressed.
Yes I have. High School students go to school in their PJs and slippers. And swear pants and hoodies. It’s their trend. My daughter tried soon, she didn’t like it and now has to change into her nicer clothes.
My job sometimes has pajama days. I tried not to…but all the other workers go in to the building in their pjs…then I looked out of place.
The new trend here is also gym clothes.
One co worker told me I dress too nice for the job. She was Italian.
We visited 5 countries in Europe last summer, no one wears sweats, hoodies or pajamas in the street.
My sisters husband is French, he makes sure she puts on a dress and heels when going out.
When his parents stayed in my house for a week, they were watching how I cook and how we furnished our house. One time I came out in my pjs…I asked my brother in law if it’s okay. He said it’s my house I can do what I wish. 😆
But for sure, the French judge the why we cook, what we wear… but with a good heart.
I don’t like that people in my job all dress down…because of I dress up, I get judged 🤦♀️
We do all judge. But I prefer dressing more presentable. I don’t like going out in sweats and pjs. even though I have.
In my culture (Asian American) we do tell each other to dress nicely…so I like that. I don’t like that Americans have lost their mind and being very sloppy.
"Pajama days at work", fuck, you must work with all women.
@KrakenAttackin yup 99% women! It’s no fun. I am a first grade teacher. So my students keep me sane 😊
@julie4. As well they should.
I go on my pajamas sometimes;, I learned how to dress on them when the pandemic hit, and we weren't allowed to go anywhere but home. So I kept buying pj's that are flattering and cute and now I use them to go out and feel cute and comfortable. I couldn't careless if anyone judges me, bc I am happy with me. Cheers

I’ve seen others do that but I have never done it.
There is not much of a dress code in the US, or really much of any code or rules at all. At this point the US is more akin to a broken record playing Cole Porter's 'Anything Goes' than anything else. Police cannot generally do their jobs, teachers cannot generally give the grades students deserve, and having what used to be referred to as good judgment is more likely to lead to the closure of your electronic social life than to being held up as a pillar of society. It is an interesting time to live in the wild west, knowing that this insanity cannot endure forever.
Lol is that what they tell you? Lol Americans we do what we want. But are certainly judged for it by our own. The difference is, not one gives a crap what they are seen as. It’s a blessing and a curse. I would say more curse cause then you have a bunch of idiots running around that think they are above reprieve from morals or social expectations or even rule of law. American is really a lawless country. The only thing that’s keeps people in check is that the government has made itself so powerful that it can make examples out of us. Most countries are like that, but not like our little industrial western society.
As long as your privates are covered and one doesn't care what they look like, it's pretty much anything goes. Let something slip out of those confines, though, and one is branded as a sex offender for the rest of their lives.
On the other hand, some European countries embrace public nudity, something which I'm very much for in the states, only because I want to sunbathe nude in my own backyard swimming pool.
The puritanical hysteria in the states is appalling to me.
Sometimes if I'm not feeling well, I might go in my pajamas. I honestly don't care what people think of me. Not one bit. I don't like people anyway. I dare someone to say something to me one day, lol. It's not very often though.
I once spent a month in the hospital, so wearing pajamas in the store is nothing to me.
Funny to hear you say that since most Americans I met here in france would actually praise the effort people make dressing up here.
I personally don't have pajamas since I find it healthier to sleep in your underwear and there's no chance I'm going shopping in that 😉
Saudi Arabians do this all the time.
Myself:
I feel too civilized to even consider it.
There's a thin line that separates ''freedom'' from silliness.
I also refuse to call a pyjama a pajama.
If more primitive cultures see this differently, I'll of course tolerate their ways.
...
But I'll stay on a distance to them.
You ever leave your parents house to go to yours and your just gonna be in the car so you put random stuff on? I was in a white tank top pj shorts footed knee high striped socks and flip flops. I had to make a stop to Walgreens and I didn’t realize how bad I looked until I was in the checkout line and I thought about what I was wearing. I wasn’t embarrassed and no one cared. I try not to go out like that but hey it happens sometimes.
I find that inappropriate.
So, no.
I’ve seen men and women in sleep pants and a t-shirt in a Walmart before. Not anything I’ve ever done or would do.
No, never. That is the kind of thing you see in Walmart stores.
No way, but it's very common here, especially in smaller, poorer towns. But even to university, students wore PJs and slippers. One guy gave a presentation in stained sweat pants?
You actually this is COOL?
Freedom to dress like a slob isn't something that should be promoted. And a lot of people DO judge, but not openly.
My French friend on here said people do it in France too in the rural villages. But you are right about being judged if you don't follow trends. She told me this as well.
Maybe in certain parts.
You DO? I thought you live in the city.
But in general I heard that the average French person doesn't dress as lavishly as you see on TV. I've seen French people in very casual clothing.
Would YOU go out in public in your pajamas if you knew you wouldn't be shamed for it?
In the interest of fairness I think there is a benefit to judgment as far as maintaining a civil society. Judgment is not the monster the modern left makes it out to be. Taken to extremes of course it can be, but most people don't take anything to its logical conclusion.
I was waiting at the deli at our local store and this girl was in her PJs and she saw me in back of her and she blushed.
God no, that's really weird. Are these people so lazy that they can't even be bothered getting dressed in the morning? Wow.
Nevermind the laziness. I think any normal person would be embarrassed to go out in public like that
@KostasKouvalis Bold of you to assume the existence of what used to be considered 'normal people' anymore, or that they would subject themselves to dealing with the general public if it could possibly be avoided..
I occasionally do in my sweat pants. Never in PJ's though, don't even own a pair.
Would you never wear sweat pants out in France? What if you've been working out etc...
Not me, but my sister went into Dominoes to pick up our dinner in her sleeping gown. She said it didn't make sense to throw clothes on just to walk in for like one minute for pizza lol.
Not so common in Australia to shop in pajamas bit if it is cold I might wear a tracksuit to bed and it is convenient go get a coffee immediately without needing to put trousers on.
No I would never do that since I don´t think it´s appropriate. To me it rather sounds childish than cool.
No, I even get dressed and do my make up before throwing rubbish into the trash can downstairs.
@msc545 There are people who recognize me downstairs, some shopkeepers, security and so on, I would feel bad to be seen in a bad shape. But that being said, I have a light bluish/grayish birthmark on my face and If I don’t cover it with make up, people always assume someone hit me. So, make up is a must do.
Personally I have never done that.
That is one thing I definitely prefer about Europe is that people are more classy in how they dress.
In America a lot of people are too casual in my opinion.
Google "people of walmart". Yes people wear whatever but they do get judged, hence having a website devoted to them. As for me I never do. I find it trashy and a reflection of who they are as a person.
I've seen it in the uk too at 24 hour supermarkets. 99.9% of the time they're buying beer
Went to work a couple times like that because of middle of the night calls.
It's true that people do this, but not this girl 🙂
HELL NO! Pajamas are meant to wear in bed not outside of my house.
*meant to be worn.
Sorry for the typo.
I would look silly in the mall wearing a nightgown and curlers
No, as I never wear pajamas. I sleep. euther nude or with just a pour of underpants on.
We go out & about quite a bit in lounge pants & t-shirts. That's also what we wear for long distance driving.
I don't own pajamas. I usually wear jeans and a t-shirt
American FEMALES do this trashy shit, not men.
No I don't want to look like a lazy person who doesn't care.
No, I'd be arrested, I sleep naked. I do wear sandals almost everywhere casual. Nike Air.
Nope, never. Since I live in a small town, after 8pm everything is closed anyway.
No absolutely not, and never will either.
no way people would look at me weird
Ugh, no thanks. I am not Jeffrey Lebowski.
No, there is no way I would ever do that.
Either in shalwaar kameez or pant shirts.
Nope, never did or never seen anyone do that.
whats wrong with that?
Yes, many times
You see it a lot in china too
yes i have way to school with them on
No I am to shy and everything so I would not
Only if its a emergency
I did a long time ago
yeah if i'm feeling lazy
Nope
Not in the UK!
Nope
Just the pharmacy.
