What Christmas songs need banning for being offensive?

The British Government has declared that singing certain Christmas songs in public is illegal. Owners of pubs can now be prosecuted if they allow certain songs to be sung by patrons.

The banned list includes.

Jingle Bells. The song was originally sung by men in blackface and is about slaves fitted with bells to stop them running away.

Do they know it's Christmas. The song perpetuates negative attitudes towards Africa and and holds the dark continent back by discouraging investment

Baby it's cold outside. The song is a bit rapey promoting coercion over consent.

Fairytale of New York. Contains homophobic slurs relating to a popular meatball dish.

So which Christmas song needs to be banned?

They tried to ban Baby It’s Cold Outside, 7 or 8 years ago and now the song is more popular than ever. People like the song. Guys are always trying to make for a nice situation to get some… at least they were. Now we have crashing birth rates. I have certainly made my wife a strong drink and have heard “what’s in this drink?”. Strong drinks aren’t illegal, they can be fun.

Jingle Bells itself isn’t racist. It was about two seater sleighs that guys would race with a girl in the other seat, some drinks and perhaps a crash in a snow bank. It is what they did before sports cars. The complaint now is that some minstrels who had used blackface sung it. Who cares. No one even knows who these people were it’s just a holiday song. We have movies called White Chicks with white face, who cares. This song will get stronger over the years now too.

“Do they know its Christmas” was to help people. So was Live Aid. The past few years everything is racist but people are numb to it now. Who cares.

The local council next to mine has banned all Christmas songs. My local council has refused to put up Christmas decorations on the sound grounds of cost savings.

Can't believe the UK gov't has just banned only 4 songs instead of the lot. That amounts to endorsement of Christian centrist views

Omg, like, ban Wham's "Last Christmas." That song is just so totally offensive on so many levels to anyone who ever hears it. It is just so wrong.

AND it is not even a Christmas song. All he says is "Last Christmas... blah, blah, puke." It mentions nothing else about the Holidays. He could have said "Last Tuesday... blah, blah, puke." and it wouldn't have changed the song at all. It would still suck.

Not only should the song be banned and every copy of it completely destroyed but the entire band should be put in a public stockade.

At the time many in Africa were starving while in the UK and US people were well fed and had luxuries galore. While the rich were running around looking for gifts and parties. The song was t0 bring awareness of the problem pre-internet. When you are literally starving you don’t jniw or care what day it is, calendar or not, Christmas or not.

My wife grew up in a squatters area in a third world country and her family lived on a dollar a day and they always knew when it was Christmas. The thought that you don't know the day because you're poor and starving is so condescending and elitist which was my point and you just proved it.

@BonzoInBitburg I think the song was targeted at people in the 'rich' countries who have the ability to eat what they want at Christmas and give each other presents while they've put up a Christmas tree and there's snow outside. It's about creating awareness and act on that.

You really need to go to these countries to make a change otherwise its just virtue signaling hypocrisy like this song represents. There are plenty of us that travel to countries like these to set up scholarships to raise families out of poverty and this song is a joke and those countries feel it. There is no justification for the elitist attitude of those so called artists.
