I got into a debate with some coworkers a few years ago. Both men said they’d end a relationship with an otherwise marriageable woman who wanted them to take her last name in marriage. Hahahaha! Most women these days I have found anecodotally keep there last name and just add their husbands new one. Use to be this was done due to them being well known but not the case anymore. I think people should do whatever they are comforatble with.

She and her children couldn’t receive a man’s assets after his death if they didn’t share his name. Since that’s no longer the case, the rule is arbitrary. If “tradition” is the best reason you have for doing something, you actually demean tradition by adhering to it. Of course people should be allowed to do whatever they’re comfortable with. BUT people should also be thoughtful and mindful. Sometimes you can split the marriage according to strengths also, if one party is better than other in terms of money then they have the say on money issues. Taking lead and ignoring your partners preferences, will build resentment over time from the party who has no say in the decision making process. Of course, as mentioned, nothing is wrong with splitting tasks in certain cases, e. g. where one party is very good with money and the other hates dealing with finances but this is also something that needs to be discussed. I think the key is cooperation.
Another choice is to dump the woman and do what he want to do in the first place, or who ever gets their way, gets to pay for it.
