I mean, they are there to provide any help in the preparation of the wedding, right? And to provide mental support. But it is age 30+ we are talking about. People are already rough and tough at that point.

People have enough experience at their jobs to be able to manage a simple wedding. All that is required is money. And you are set!

So, are bridesmaids and groomsmen still necessary? Or things can work out without them too...

Of course it is possible without. But the notion that a 30 and a 23 year old is wildly different in ability is strange to me. Fundamentally there is only experience differentiating them and experience is gained by, shockingly enough, experiencing things. If one has not arranged a wedding or other large/important social or relatable events it doesn't matter if you are 18 or 60. It'll still be tough. But even if we assume people have gained this experience I don't think it removes the supportive cast.

I also think a much more important argument is that they are there to ease the burden. To help the to-be-wedded go from arranging to enjoying once the whole thing is mostly planned. Really their most vital role is likely to take over some of the hosting obligations during the actual event so the couple can have their dream wedding without having to actively manage it. To do so in a satisfying way is much easier if involved throughout the whole process.

Can you have a wedding witout them? Yes. You can also have a wedding without a wedding dress, wedding rings, without being in a church, without having a rehearsal, without having a reception, without receving gifts, without making announcements, and wthoout almost every other trapping of a wedding. . . but most people want to observe customs and traditions on their wedding day.

Having a Bridesmaid (or several) or groomsman/men is just a TRADITIONAL thing. It's not to be taken LITERALLY as you have!

Plus, being 30 doesn't mean you are already OLD and ROUGH and don't need any help lol. The wedding is more for a fun experience (supposedly), there's not much HELP that is needed really. That's the wedding planner's job really. It's more about the money really.

I've seen forty-year-old brides with Bridemaids. I've seen fifty-year-old ones too! It's never about the age! It's about the wedding traditions!

I've got too bad anxiety and no friends for birdemaids haha. I think I'll just have a smaller wedding. Outdoors probably. I don't want to be walked down the Isle. Ot have a first dance. Maybe nit even say vows. I'm only 23 rn but I definitely wamt to be married by the time I am 30!

Its actually better to get married in your 30s. Data and statistics have proven that people who marry when they are more mature tend to have lower divorce rates. Couples who are both more financially stable and have good careers tend to divorce less.

They usually don't even do anything for your wedding except maybe your best man and the woman's maid of honour. They are usually just your best friends enjoying the time with you and helping you have a good time together. I went to my brothers wedding and didn't help out and I was one of his groomsmen.

I think there are many individuals who really enjoy being of assistance in a situation, such as a wedding. I think you are correct, more people are getting married later in life. That being said, work, and other obligations, have a permanent place in the married couples life in most instances. It's fun to be helpful and help someone prepare for the "big day".

I’d like to marry before I’m 30, but either way I didn't care to have bridesmaids. I dont truly like anyone enough to want them in my wedding. And my guest list has already gone from 176 people just on my side to now like 10-20 and hopefully no more than 40 people when his get included. As a person who has been married 3 times, the fanfare is just a selfish attempt at putting yourself into the spotlight for the moment. I had one wedding ceremony with all the bells and whistles. It was just a huge waste of money for the groom and the father of the bride to validate the worth of the woman. If love isn't enough to validate a person's worth then they have none.

I've been married just over two weeks.

We didn't have a wedding party at all. It was just us, the celebrant, her eldest son gave her away, and her youngest son held our rings.

Everyone else - less than 35 people - were sitting watching.

We had an inexpensive, low-stress, simple, private wedding, and it was perfect.

I would say a best man and a maid of honor and you need witnesses anyway. If you added one bridesmaid and one groomsman that would be ok too and make things more festive, but not the big lineup girls in their 20s do (though guys as weddings like this because they're always dtf).

I do think it’s ridiculous when people have 8 or 9 bridesmaids because then it’s just a flex on how popular you are. But they should be reserved for the people who have stood by your side.
