Soon to be Mother In-Law told my finance to call off the wedding if we do the ceremony in a church?

Ling story shorty my future My mother in-law randomly texted my finance saying “Call off the wedding if it’s in church!!” Her mother has some issues with the Catholic Church but it’s over stupidity and she claims I am being controlling and “forcing” meanwhile she is trying to force me to do it on-site at the hall. I disagree because she has a lack of respect towards me and my family beliefs and my finance is scared to approach her mom.. I have never done anything wrong in the family and my fiancé knows that and everyone else in the family loves me. So her anger towards me is uncalled for and I do not know how to handle it? She has had a bad divorce in the past and is being extremely irrational towards everything and she doesn’t realize how disrespectful she is being towards me and my family when all I have done is treat her daughter like a Princess.
