Special and Unique wedding traditions! Did you or anyone you know have any unique wedding traditions?

first of all I would like to point out that... ever heard of Mexican wedding cookies? these do not even exist in Mexico's weddings (not where I've lived, anyway... lol)
- most of Mexican weddings are celebrated at a mass and Catholic Church, since Mexico is pretty much 90% Catholic of faith... so you do marry before god and also bless by the Virgen of Guadalupe (brides do the offering of their bouquet) plus many other Catholic traditional rites

- Padrinos and Madrinas are a must... this is godparents, and usually the closest of your friends or siblings take this role and many times do pay for a lot of the wedding costs
- there's going to be mariachis, don't fight, don't try to stop it, it is happening... even if you don't pay for it, someone else will and they will show up! lol... and they usually kick off the party time, because the wedding ceremony is very solemn and traditional, but as soon as the mariachi comes out and the newlywed couple takes off from the mass to any sort of parade, they will go to the after party
- a party which is going to be massive, and by that I mean MASSIVE and sometimes can go for two entire days...
-there's always a fight somewhere at some point, lmao...
I'm trying to remember where we were, it may have been in Tucson, or Santa Fe, but a mariachi band broke out in early evening outside our hotel room. All four of us were enchanted, and absolutely giddy with laughter and excitement. It wasn't for us, but somebody else staying in the hotel.
@MiddleAgedClimbee lol, yeah... a mariachi can always come out of nowhere, pretty much anywhere in the world
and for so many reasons as well... lol
If you want a tradition, google "shivaree." It is a European and American old tradition which has fallen our of fashion but was popular until the early 1900's.
It's not a tradition, but this is somewhat unique. When I married in 2011, I composed a song, arranged it for choir, piano, and oboe accompaniment, and sang it to my bride during the wedding.
African weddings are unique. During the wedding the groom will hide in the crowd among his friends and the bride with a cup of wine will beg the people to please help her find her husband.
She has to go in among the crowd and try to find him and if the people are kind enough, they will point her to where he is and she would then go to him, kneel down before him and offer him the drink. He would take a sip and feed her some before helping her up and hugging her. It's so cool and fun.

I know a couple that got married on a cruise ship, by the captain. That's not a tradition, but it sure is unique.
I knew a girl once who had everyone dress up in costume at her wedding, and the bride and groom dressed up also. They were married on Halloween, so made it a maxarade ball. Different and original I thought
That sounds so great love that idea
My wife's cousin married a biker. they had the wedding in his backyard. All his biker buddies lined up their Harleys in two rows and the bride and the groom rode his bike between the two rows of bikes. I thought it was going to be really stupid but it was really well done.
Our cake topper belonged to her grandparents from their wedding. It will certainly be passed down to our children
We were asked to use a specific set of champagne glasses for the Bide and Groom toast. These glasses were used in 26 weddings before us. I am sure they have been used in many, many more since our wedding.
My Giga -Chad friend has a "tradition" of banging "brides" who are out boozing a couple of days before their wedding. He has a kill ratio of about 80%.
No not really. I'm Jewish, so, if I ever did get married (which I don't want to be), I'd likely have the Jewish traditions at one
Waiting until marriage for sex feels like a dying tradition… 😕
Every culture has its own tradition, so all traditions are unique for you, as you have never seen them all
Unique: prima nocta :)
