If you're not married just say where you'd like it to happen
My wife and I met when we lived in the Los Angeles area. She was originally from Cincinnati and has a huge family.
Even though neither of us were religious, we had a full Catholic ceremony in a church for the benefit of her parents and family. I wore a formal suit and she wore a full bridal outfit. It was the kind of thing she had always imagined, like the fairy tale wedding.
It was Oct. 3, 1996.
Her family threw a really fun reception afterwards at a nice venue with a lovely view.
They also provided the informal food, snacks and drinks. Someone was acting as DJ.
So there was lots of drinking and dancing. At one point, everyone including children and teens, joined in to do the Macarena.
Through a connection, one of her brothers gifted us a wedding suite in one of the best hotels in the city for our wedding night.
Afterwards, we flew to Boston for our honeymoon. I had never been to New England in the fall and it was on my bucket list.
Boston was fun. Then we toured Massachusetts and up through New Hampshire to Vermont. We nailed the fall colors at their peek.
We did all kinds of fun things. Our two week honeymoon was magical.
One thing we did was visit the Trapp Family home in Stowe, VT.
We parked and, when we walked up, there was a really large, gently sloping lawn in front of the house.
I had a video camera and said my wife should to the Julie Andrews thing from The Sound of Music.
Without hesitation, she took off running across the lawn. When she reached the center, she spun in circles with her arms outstretched and sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music" at the top of her lungs.
People all around turned to look. I started laughing so hard that I almost dropped the camera.
After our two week honeymoon, we few back to L. A.
On Nov 6, we had another wedding for my family and our friends at a gorgeous venue provided by one of her friends.
We wore our wedding outfits again. This time, my wife got to make an entrance down a curving staircase.
A nondenominational, lady minister friend of my wife's performed the ceremony. Our friends provided a truly gourmet, pot luck feast.
I bought a "paradise cake" from King's Hawaiian Bakery. And I hired a professional saxophonist for the afternoon.
Getting dressed up again and doing the second wedding was more stressful than we thought it would be. I joke that my wife made me marry her twice so that I would never want to get married again. She wanted to make sure that this one stuck. I'm kidding, of course. I was as involved in the plans as she was.
The two weddings were completely different and both turned out wonderfully. With the honeymoon in between, we have really fun memories.

We got married in the church I've been going to since 2015. For our honeymoon, we went to San Francisco about two months later. Though it wasn't so much a honeymoon as it was a family vacation (my wife got pregnant about six weeks after the wedding).
