Hi everyone,

I've been dating someone for the past 6 months now and he's Muslim and I am Christian we're both living here in UK and both grew up here.

We vibe a lot and I am his first girlfriend as he never dated anyone before, he's a very nice man and we're both 24 years old.

Our connection and relationship is getting deeper & deeper and he kept mentioning about marriage to me, his mum kept asking him when he's getting married & he even asked me what age do I want to get married... is he giving hints? I am getting anxious because I need to convert to Islam I am willing to but I think it's a bit too soon to think about it?

A few things to keep in mind:His culture may view things on a faster timeline when it comes to relationships and commitment. That doesn't mean you have to feel rushed though.

Definitely don't make any major decisions like converting religions until you've both had lots more time to decide if you're truly compatible long-term. 6 months is still pretty fresh.

Talk to him openly about wanting to take things slower. Make sure you're on the same page relationship-wise before diving into serious life changes.

It's great that you're open-minded about his faith. But converting is a big step - take your time learning about what it really means and entails before deciding.

Have fun dating for now. See how you both grow together over the next year before thinking marriage or religion swaps. Go with what feels right for YOU, not what others expect.

in my opinion, you need to respect your culture and your values man. Your values, from what you've written, is that you don't want to get married. But is that tolerable in their culture? Think about this. This isn't something you should do willy nilly. And nor, in my view, should you be so passive about what is important to you. Is that your role as a woman, to be passive and subservient? Because, you're making those kinds of noises.

I don't like that religion and I don't like that culture. What about individual autonomy? What about respect for women and what you want? And whose business is it of the parents to be pressurising marriage?

You don't necessarily need to convert. The only advice I give to people when they ask such questions is - change your faith if you believe in it, not to satisfy your partner for marriage. Besides, for muslims, marriage is considered permissible with a monotheist, so you're good.

To be honest I am not even religious myself to Christianity but if ill convert to Islam I need to stop drinking or eating pork but since we dated I have started drinking and eating pork and it wasn't that really hard.. but I am just getting anxiety because I don't want to regret in the future.
