How is a Open Relationship a good Relationship?

All I can imagine happening in a open relationship is just openly cheating honestly. Because at that point you've downgraded to being friends with your wife

Husband: hey welcome home wife, woah I can't remember that last time you wore that stunning dress you look amazing how was that dinner date you went on and wha, who's this? I don't remember you telling me you'd bring someone over but come on in
Wife: hey husband remember when we discussed having a open relationship a few days ago? Well this is Chad we'll be upstairs don't bother us -wife locks door-
Husband: dang, they sure are loud up there, I can't even sleep on the couch for very long hearing how loud that bed squeaks maybe I should invite my friend over for a movie
Husband's friend cassie: -cassie arrives- hey friend ready for our movie?
Husband: heck yeah! Also don't mind the bed squeaking loudly upstairs it's just my wife and her boyfriend I guess but it's been a while since me and my wife did things together
Husband's friend cassie: oh I didn't think you were the kind of guy to be in a open relationship you seemed like more of a traditional marriage relationship type
Husband: honestly yeah but I just wanted to keep my wife happy so I agreed to it. Honestly though I feel kinda bad.
Wife's boyfriend Chad: walks to the front door but is stopped by wife begging him not to go but Chad leaves anyway
Wife: -looking at husband- why did Chad leave? All I told him is that I have a husband and im looking for a open relationship is that so wronggg? and Who is that woman sitting with you?
Husband: wife I don't know Chad personally so I just don't know, and this is cassie she's a friend of mine I've introduced you to her a week ago
Wife: whatever doesn't matter I want chad back -goes upstairs and locks door-
Husband's friend cassie: im no marriage counselor but I think you two maybe heading towards divorce.
Husband: I hope not
Cassie: you're doing more to keep her happy than she is to make you happy.

I think thats the stereotype of judging an open relationship. Initially I pre-judged it as well. Sure there are awful people with poor intentions like how you described that use it to pretty much “cheat” in their own ways. But a couple with the equal intention for having open relationships can work if it is communicated openly, clearly, respectfully, and managed to hold their boundaries. There are just some non monogamous relationships that not everyone will understand nor can understand, which is also okay. We don’t need to agreed to it, but be open and respect that others do not always have to 100% do the same thing as we do.

I don't criticize others on what they do in that area, but I honestly don't understand it. I met a Canadian wife online. Her husband was a swinger, because he puts zero emotion into it. But the wife calls herself polyamorous. Meaning she can love more than one. So she has a hubby, two boyfriends and two friends with benefits. While I was trying to comprehend this, she told me she's going to Spain to visit her daughter in college. While there, she planned on hooking up with some guy. So I don't buy into any of it. I find that these people are just swingers who don't like that label.
