Outdated tradition: YES
(in general, however hear me out)

To push the idea of marriage onto your children, force arranged marriages in Conservative settings, force 1 man and 1 woman, etc. is outdated.

Choosing to marry once you are the right age, have financial stability, your mental health is well, and you find your life partner whom shares your feelings, whether you are straight or gay or lesbian or trans or intersex whoever you are / your category you are worthy of love and to blossom with the love of your life in marriage.

That is the difference I’m calling upon. Marriage was a tradition pushed onto people and pressured is wrong / outdated. Choosing to marry for love regardless of what that means for the two love birds is beautiful.

No and I don't think it ever will be.

"Marriage," in whatever form as it takes many forms, is a survival of the species mechanism for the female. Once again this can be explained by evolution. In the human species, females bear the offspring and take the primary responsibility for raising them until they are old enough to be independent which is quite a few years.

The male's role is to provide and protect for the woman and the offspring until they reach that point of being independent.

So for the female, it is critical to find a mate who is going to be committed to protecting and providing for her and the offspring for a sufficient period of time until they can survive on their own.

That's why marriage is so critical to women. And that's why a male that can make that commitment, or at least seemingly so, is so attractive to them.

It's nature. And nature never goes out of fashion because it is built into our DNA.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the average marriage lasts about the same time it takes to raise a child or two to the point that they could survive on their own or that so many of them and right after the kids leave the nest.

Nature's number one most important function for the survival of any species including humans is reproduction. So anything that contributes to that, such as a marriage type commitment, is natural and here to stay.

Yes marriage was for an era where birth control didn’t exist in both meds or condoms. An era where paternity test didn’t exist.
It was to ensure the offspring of the father would be “his”.

Also for the most part marriage started out as a Royal tradition for those of royal blood. Use common folk ARE NOT OF ROYAL BLOOD.

Many narcissist men tend to use marriage as some sort of weapon against women. OH YOU NEED TO BE MARRIED TO SOMEONE AND HAVE KIDS.

As if everyone was of royal blood. Nobody is of royal blood and a royal background to needs to marry and bring an heir. 🖕

No not really. It's still a good thing to do, it just isn't as needed to live anymore since you can pay people to do what a wife or husband would do. So with everyone working it is possible for that to work. I personally don't think it is a good thing for society, hence the many lonely people in the world lol.

Depends on how you think of marriage: religious ceremony? legal exchange? lifelong personal commitment?

I don't care for the religious aspect of marriage in the slightest (I'm not religious anyway), but I'm not against the idea of a life partner, I think I'd actually enjoy it if I can find the right person, and the legal side of things is really just to deal with like taxes and hospitals and childrearing costs, etc. Practical if you have a use for it.

It's outdated for people who don't want to be traditional. I never understand the people who want to have a totally non traditional marriage acting like their marriage is just as likely to be successful as people from older generations who stayed married for 50-60 years till they died.

Tbf I find traditions outdated in themselves. That word in it's self is outdated for me in pretty much all cases.  Only traditions I like is personal ones not something dictated by society.

I think so. And why make a relationship complicated with a contract? What's better then to be free. Marriage might actually be a sign of distrust rather then love. If a couple really love each other nothing else matters. The world can even stop rotating or disappear and it still won't matter.

I'd say the practices surrounding it are pretty outdated. But marriage itself, as a way to legally bind yourself to another person is very important I'd wager. Plus I'm a hopeless romantic so it's also cute.

there are many consequences of not being married, this includes dying all alone, lonely and neglected. Especially for the folks who don't want kids. You better watch for your older years
