Why is it still customary for the man to ask the woman to marry, generally speaking?

A good woman (not a girl, etc.) tends to know her desire for a romantic attachment early on, whereas a good man may still feel unprepared to marry. Our maturity and milestones hit sooner than the average man’s.

It’s important for both individuals to wait till they feel ready to take on challenges and responsibilities separately before they can test out the way they work together and, finally, come to the conclusion that they’re ready for a lifetime commitment.

Guys have to shake off a bunch of things — the idea they “still have options” or are “settling”… the idea that their life will be just the same but with the addition of their girl… etc etc etc. women, by contrast, tend to think about such things early on, possibly bc of their built-in “nesting” instincts.

Anyway… best for the guy to ask when he knows wtf he wants 100%. If the gal pushes him into it he’ll feel cornered and pressured and ultimately cheat on her or find some other way to mess up and blame everything on pressures from the wife and family…. Don’t do it….

Because men are the deciders on relationships. Men generally approach women we are interested in, we ask them out, and we decide the terms of our relationship and all it's titles, we even give them our name in marriage if they earn it. Are we just sleeping together, are we boyfriend/girlfriend, are we engaged, are we married? All these questions are decided by the man, because it's the responsibility of the woman to impress the hell out of men so that we stay with them. Why is that? Isn't it obvious? Women get pregnant and need help raising kids. Men can come and go as we please. Women need to prove to men that they are worth it for the man to pair bond with them, so that we stick around. Women that forget that end up struggling as single mom's bitching about how no one wants to date a single mom, all men are assholes that abandon women, and how the "dead beat Dad" walked out on her and won't make his child support payments. Yet, all of that could have been avoided if she just treated her man right.

There's a long history in which women have basically been considered the property of their fathers. Before asking a woman for her hand in marriage, you had to get permission from her father. It only made sense then for the man to propose to the woman, not the other way around.

We are way past that historical activity, but it's so ingrained in our society, the man usually asks. But it's not necessary. I know several couples here she asked him before he asked her.

I don't care you people need to stop with the whole child free wedding my now ex friend and her demon husband decided they were going to be disrespectful Karen's and not include guest children in to the wedding Guess what my husband and I we can care less we showed up with our angles anyways. So enough with the planing a child free wedding.

They say a woman is the gateway to sex, and a man is the gateway to a (long term) relationship.  He is committing to her above all others, even when she's icky and pregnant.
