I think it's clear that this wasn't a serious question. The point was that men, today, still are happy to marry, even knowing that they will likely be forced into alimony, child support and losing their children. Men are suckers, but they're suckers for a good reason. Which is love. I won't shame them. And I won't shame the incels that reject marriage. Women, as shown here, would reject it too if the odds were against them.

I don’t watch “divorce court” but I’m sure there’s some correlation to rising working women and ladies paying alimony.
But consider the reverse: if alimony isn’t being paid much by women is it because they don’t have the same economic opportunities?

It's mostly because women marry men with higher incomes. And divorce if their incomes start to fall below. And historically, courts didn't award alimony to men. There have been recent updates, but when my parents were divorcing, it was impossible for a female to have to pay a male alimony. I'm guessing states aren't like that anymore, but I wouldn't know for sure.

All true, but that’s because women weren’t allowed to have the same jobs as men that long. But yes courts do lean toward moms more than dads, maybe wives versus hubbys. If kids aren’t involved there’s less mess all around.

Yeah, I understand your perspective and I understand that's how a lot of men view the risk of marriage. But many still agree to that risk of forced servitude, just because they love the woman. I did. Alimony, child support and losing custody are common outcomes for a man for divorce. Very rare for women.

If marriage actually meant till death do we part, I'd be more inclined to get married. It doesn't. All it means is if a breakup happens, it'll be harder and messier for me.

A relationship is two people who choose each other each day every day for their entire lives that doesn't change if they're officially married or not.

If this was something women had to worry about, I wouldn't blame them for not wanting to take that risk.

No offense taken. I know I'm a sucker for love. But if there's anything this post taught me, is that women aren't suckers for love. They're calculated and pragmatic. It's why I always laugh when people say women are emotionally weaker. They're stronger. Just less stable.

Not at all. Just like a man's only worth isn't providing income but the history of divorce is generally based around a man being forced to continue to provide income. I realize those laws are changing in recent years, but historically only men were required to provide alimony. And women don't typically agree to marry men with less income, so even modern laws tend to put that obligation onto men exponentially more often. But men still agree to marriage and still agree to that risk. I did. Out of love. And nothing else.

Historically doesn’t matter in this case. Alimony falls equally on both parties and only affects those with disproportionate incomes to their partner. And plenty of women have equal or greater incomes and assets as the men they marry.

@WhitneySnow historical matters because men have historically made that decision, and continue to make that decision. Even when the numbers are against them. They continue to take that risk. A vast majority of women won't marry men that earn less. They know better than to take the risk. Men don't care. Most of them. It's for love though. And they continue to risk literally enslavement for love.
