Yes. But the current climate we are in nowadays. Yeah, women want to do less, and get more. Meaning, they don’t care about a man, his wellbeing, his mission, his sacrifice to make sure they are well taken care of. They want more. A bigger house, a more luxurious lifestyle, to be wined and dined, or the man isn’t worth it. It’s the feminist mentality. Also, women don’t know how to be women. To treat a man, to cook, to clean, to be submissive, to be sacrificial in all different way than men. lol I hear this phrase all the time, I’ll submit if he is worthy of it. Not how that works.

If you are at work, you submit to your boss, if you are in public and a police officer pulls you over, you submit to what he is asking, why is it, women would submit in those situations, blindly, but when it comes to there husband, bfs, etc… the one who would literally give his life to protect you (at least most men in real relationships would) you think you can choose to not submit. That will get you fired pretty quickly.

Of course I do. There are many people that have proved it to be so. However, everyone has such ridiculous expectations nowadays and low commitment levels. Because everyone is online and easily accessible (especially to women), people leave at a moment's notice any time any little thing happens that they don't like. They don't want to communicate and try to work through the issues. They want to just move on the the next person. It's the reason why hookup culture is prevalent these days.

There ARE good and mature people that have no issues with open and honest communication and commitment, but they are increasingly rare as this society is conditioning people to leave with any little bump in a relationship.

A lifetime no because marrying babies is weird. But I believe people can stay married for the rest of their lives. My parents have been married for 28 years, but together since they were 16/18. My grandparents were married from age 19 up until my grandma passed away a few years ago. Guess I've been very fortunate to be surrounded by people who genuinely love each other and aren't afraid to show it either. Maybe that's why I'm so picky

Well it will always last the lifetime of the marriage. I've often wondered if marriages should last a lifetime. Pagan handfasting can often only last a few years. It would be nice if we had more options. Like have an option for weddings that can expire, if you want to you could renew, but you don't have too, and give options for polyamorous relationships too.

When marriage was invented people had a lifespan of like 30 years
So it was easy to firmly believe in happily ever after

But now we not only live more than twice that we also have ways to keep our youthful vigor going for longer

So a successful marriage at 20 and 30 might still crumble at 40

I do think it’s doable because some people have managed to do it
But I don’t think it’s easy and intuitive like it might have been a long time ago

Which is kinda sad but also very liberating

People lived longer than 30 years back in the day. Divorce was around in those days also.

It definitely can. Most people simply make little effort, and divorce is way too easy. No Fault Divorce was a huge mistake, and was largely lobbied for by neurotic Hollywood celebrities. Reagan, a divorced actor himself, signed it into California law as governor, but later cited it as his biggest political mistake of his career.

If everyone knew that divorce was going to be a slow, difficult, painful process and often wasn't granted (it's essentially a court dissolving a contract), a whole lot more people would take it a lot more seriously to begin with.

A marriage isn't going to last unless it's built on a solid foundation, which includes having compatible morals, values, and life goals - things most people today barely think about before they marry. That's why parents were traditionally involved

    It seems unlikely.

The 30+ year marriages don't have divorces but there is a distinct blip up at 20 years which might correlate to the empty nest phase.

Dunno wrt France but the median length of marriage in the Anglosphere is 8 years. That seems to be the time it takes to pop out 1.8 babies and get them into elementary/primary school with it's attendant child minding.

It seems primarily child cycle driven.

I think we all probably have much higher expectations now as well. It is very exciting at the beginning but that is certain to recede. We may be divorcing over a lack of entertainment.

“Do you think a marriage can really last a lifetime?”

I know so since my grandparents, neighbors, friends, parents, etc. all have marriages that lasted a lifetime. Sorry, just the facts it can though I understand it isn’t always the case.

My advice: Get to know the person for 6-10 years before marriage, have a loving romantic relationship then take the next steps slowly. Be sure he/she is the right one for you and be smart & sensible. Thank you

Yes. It will for my wife and me. We've been married now for over 28 years, had a LOT of fun and built and wonderful life together. We have been through ups and downs. She has proven her loyalty. I cherish her. And we both take our marriage vows seriously. We are best friends, trusted partners, and lovers. We are in it to the end.

I know others who were married for life.

The majority of first time marriages last. So for first-timers, yes.

The high divorce rate you always hear about is driven higher because of repeat divorcees. It drives the average up. If someone gets divorced once they are far higher to get divorced again. If they get married a third time, the chance of divorce is even higher.

But four is a charm. The divorce rate for forth marriage drops down. That might be because they are old enough that they die before getting divorced.

It is certainly challenging to make that happen.

But the thought of having a soulmate whose hand you can hold in yours until the very end when you both fly off into the night together is so powerful that many are willing to take that chance.

Most of the time it doesn't. The more interesting questions to me are "who wants it?" and "when and why do they want it?"

The answers to these are very obvious but usually not discussed or euphemized.

If two people truly love one another, can communicate effectively, take accountability and genuinely grow together with a team mindset then yes. People can sometimes forget the value of their partner or themselves which cause a lot of tension.

@SixFootSexy she is still married to your brother regardless of the laws of man. She for instance could never remarry within the Catholic Church as that would be bigamy as she is already married, unless your brother died.
What she is doing is called adultery.
