No, the cost of rent and groceries as a single person is really difficult to manage. I am salty that I work longer hours and my dollar gets less buying power than those in couples.

I don’t even think it’s about couples getting the advantage, you just need a job that pays well or to live in an affordable area. Two incomes will always be most favorable and obviously double incomes is an advantage. Is the asker suggesting that both parties make less to break even with the average single persons costs?

There are tax breaks for married couples, we can pass tax breaks for singles. We can charge singles less for rent as well. More accessible weight based portioning for food so singles can manage it easier as opposed to having to buy amounts meant for families and risking spoiling it or not being able to purchase products due to its unfeasibility for singles.

None of this hurts couples.
