I do but after being a wedding photographer for a number of years, I realized I don't want it to be overly extravagant. I want to do something fun and maybe even relatively cheap.

I was watching the 16mm film of my grandparents wedding and it is so much more rewatchable even with no sound than any video I've seen made in the last 20 years.

I think I'll take the 10 grand I would have spend on photo/video, find some kid who's starting out and give them 5k, tell them what to buy and to shoot it like a home video. Would probably come out ten times batter

I never heard of anybody spending $10,000 on a wedding photographer. That's like some Hollywood shit

@Staximus it's not uncommon at all. Some people still spend 5k just on the book/ prints I used to work with a guy who did a package deal that was 15k for photo and video and I'm pretty sure that didn't include the book.

It's a very lucrative industry if you can stand dealing with the clients. And you don't need to be very good at photography to make a living. Though most of the super expensive guys you're paying for the fact they've probably shot a million times at the venue you're going to. They know exactly what jokes to crack and when and how to pose for every crack and corner in the space etc. I knew a guy who would make you pick hairstyles from a book before even agreeing to take the job and the bride and groom were contractually obligated to do everything exactly how he planned out for them or else the whole job is off and I guess he just hands the camera off to his assistant or something 😂 but that guy was charging telephone numbers.

I do. I'm a weird dude who's imagined a dream wedding, with all my loved ones, creating memories that will last a lifetime since I was young. All I can do is hope I find love that'll let me live out that dream

I had a wedding — a big fat glorious wedding. But weddings don’t matter. People matter. Think more about life and less about the goofy party.

I got married on April 27, 2024 in my church. Most people would say it was a large wedding: men in morning coats, my bride in an elaborate dress handmade in China, 150 guests, string quartet, church choir singing, church beautifully decorated, reception at the country club, full meal and six-piece band, honeymoon on Hilton Head Island. I don't regret one moment of it.

I do not want a wedding. I think it is wrong to have a $30,000 party to celebrate me and only me. I just want court documents saying we married and then have that be the entire ceremony.

as a teenage girl. if i am being honest even the concept of marriage scares me. imagine giving your life away to one guy. though i know there is more to a marriage then just that. and even that is fine but how can you trust one guy with all that. how can u hand him over such a big and fragile part of you what if he just drops and breaks it. or takes it recklessly.
now dont come after me i do know true love and happy marriages do exist. and maybe my opinion would prolly change as i grow up but for now this is just me.

    Yes and no.
I don’t want a wedding in the sense that I want to be legally bound to another person for supposedly the rest of my life in a way that can only be undone by more legal paperwork, especially if it’s a binding contract that requires me to have sex when I don’t want to.
I do want a wedding in that I want a party that celebrates me and my choices for my future as well as my loved ones, and I get to wear a beautiful dress that no one else can match.

"especially if it’s a binding contract that requires me to have sex when I don’t want to" Where did you get the idea that being married contractually requires you to have sex?

Believe whatever you want to believe, but marriage does not require you to participate in sexual behavior if you don't consent. That's the law.

That law began changing in the 1970's and the first conviction for marital rape was in Florida in 1984. But our conversation is about now, not the past. Getting married NOW doesn't mean a guy will hit you in the head with his club and then drag you into his cave. You are making a juvenile argument.

Why are you getting so mad about it? It’s not like I’m saying you’re specifically doing any of this, and again I am NOT straight. I have no desire to get married as an asexual woman

You made a ridiculous claim that being married contractually requires a person to submit to sex whenever the partner wants it, and stupid statements like that always irritate me, especially when said with feigned certitude.

Speaking as someone that doesn’t want to have sex ever, the expectation of sex exists in every romantic relationship, so yeah. That’s where my certitude comes from. Chill.

Of course, most people want sex within a committed relationship. That is what normal people do. If you don't ever want to have sex, that is your right, and everyone should respect that. . . but don't expect anyone to want to marry you if you are honest with them.

And, of course, an "expectation" of having sex is FAR different from a contractual obligation, isn't it? I don't expect you to admit that you engaged in a gross exaggeration (actually, a lie,) but that is exactly what you did.

Not at all, but I know I will probably have to have one. I want to be married, but I have anything but interest in the ceremony. However, sacrifice is important in marriage. My partner will get the vast majority of what she wants for that day.
