What's the most unusual marriage proposal you've ever received/offered?

My once future (now ex) hubby bought a bag of bear claws and two coffees to sit with me on the bus to work. He opened the bag, looked down into it as if he was going to be sick, then looked up and said, "Marry me?" with big hopeful eyes. I gave him a good long look, trying to see if he was doing this bc he knew it was my last week there, bc he knew another guy had also just proposed, or bc he knew that was the only way to unlock the chastity belt. I took a sip of coffee and told him to eat his bear claw. We sat quietly till he got through about half of it, closed the bag again and looked at me. "Well?" I laughed, blushed beet red and said "Ok." He smiled, sat back and ate all the bear claws.

(Though we're not together anymore, every year I tell the story to our kids bc I want them to know that there WAS a sweet part before the crazy nasty violent attitude they witnessed from him towards the end. It's the moment that reminds me not to regret the rest of it.)

I've only proposed once, so it's all I've got.

My, girlfriend (at the time) and I were having sex, and after we were finished, enjoying that post-coitus cuddle session, we were spooning and holding hands.

While in this position, she not-so-subtley slipped off the ring that I had bought her for her birthday, and made sure it landed in my hand. Then she looked back at me, over her shoulder, with that kind of look that says, "You know exactly what I'm thinking, don't you?"

So, using that ring, I proposed right there and then, and of course, she accepted. It felt kind of sweet, at the time, but in retrospect, I kinda feel like she manipulated me in my post-nut state, lol.

Regardless, we never actually ended up getting married, since our relationship fell apart several months after that, when I realized that literally the only thing keeping us together was sex.

Unfortunately, I didn't figure that out until after she got pregnant. 🤷

Although, in my defense (since we broke up while she was pregnant): she was bipolar, but neither of us knew that, at the time. It turns out the pregnancy exacerbated the condition, which is why we couldn't stay together. She only got diagnosed later.

I know this is strange as hell, but when I was with one of my exes, one of her friends said she'd pay me to get married to her to get her parents off her back about getting married. She said she'd pay me $100k for 3 years of being married to her.

Now, even if it were true, I wouldn't accept it. I'd rather have a clean slate than have that in my history. But I smelled BS from a mile away anyways. If I had to guess, it was probably some immature shit test that my ex had her friend setup. And I can tell you right now, if I knew for sure it was my ex, I would've left her on the spot, but I told her about her friend's offer, laughing it off and I'm pretty sure she feigned ignorance. And you know what they say... innocent until proven guilty.

I can't even begin with how shady shit I think my ex put me through and I'm genuinely glad to be done with that relationship, because now all the drama is gone.

We were all about to graduate and I think he was more nervous about being alone in the real world than he was about being married. The other guy was about to head off to the military so he had a little to do list and "get married" was apparently on it the way "buy a mini fridge for the dorm" is for your generation. I of course didn't entertain the military guy's offer bc it was too intense. I think both guys just liked that I looked like a gal who knew what she was doing in life... and if she didn't she'd damned well figure it out... "My guy" was on the directionless side (which I didn't understand back then), so the appeal of being with a bossy little manager type appealed to him, I guess.

To you I'll advise, your moment will come. Don't rush into anything. Take more time to think than a short bus ride to work!

I am in no rush at all. Ignore Abby who thinks all 18-24 anons are the same person. The idea of marriage is scary until after I finish college.

Even after college. Give yourself time to breathe. Don't try to sink into the life-long commitment of marriage till after you're 25. We're not neurologically complete till then. Anything earlier is TOO SOON and one of the core causes of divorce in my generation and my parents' generation as well.

I proposed to my first wife on the steps of the old Capitol in Tallahassee. Her uncle had been involved in the renovation of that building and she was quite proud of that fact. I was also working in the new Capitol which was adjacent to the old Capitol.

It was my wife and it's, we were at a dueling piano bar, and I wrote a note "do you love me, do you want to be my wife, check yes or no" and slid it across to her with the ring box. She checked yes and put the ring on, we stood up, hugged and kissed. The dueling piano people noticed and brought us up on stage and played. Though neither of us can remember what was played lol.
