Have you ever rejected marriage proposal?

Yeah, I’ve to. Obviously not my favorite thing to do. But if the person doesn’t know themselves well enough to be in a relationship — and that’s visible to me — that’s not the sort of guy for me.

You mean like rejecting the purpose of marriage between two people as a valid societal construct for asset ownership, commitment, etc?

I will say “sort of” in two different ways. One is I have been technically proposed to by guys who were joking around, quite a few times, but they weren’t real proposals in my opinion and I laughed them off so they probably don’t count but maybe if somebody is being literal.

The other way is that my now fiance was hinting that he wanted to get engaged and I hinted that I was not ready to get engaged, so, he did not propose at that time. But later, he hinted again and I hinted that I was ready. He proposed soon after that.

So I don’t know if either situation counts as actually rejecting a proposal!

I  COULD  have.  My wife and I got married without me knowing I was going to a wedding. She set up a charity hike and told everyone except me there would be a wedding ceremony at a beach restaurant in the middle of a nature reserve. The Civil Celebrant had never done one of those sorts of things before and thought the idea was brilliant. The restaurant had been there decades and never seen something like that. Friends who came all knew but kept me in the dark. When this guy Alex introduced himself after he and my then fiance spoke, as a civil celebrant he asked me if I knew what that meant. All the friends there had taken their phones out as I was approached and was wearing only board shorts after swimming in the sea.  I said, "does it mean I'm getting married?" He said "Yes if you want to", at which I did an about turn and walked a couple of paces away from everyone, only to return and say "of course I do" The meal of noodles and rice with tofu fan was rather cheap for a wedding feast but absolutely worth it.
