Should I say happy birthday?

My ex broke up with me 2 weeks ago because he wanted to be back with his ex. Tomorrow is his birthday, so I am debating if I should email him 'Happy Birthday'. We haven't really talked since the break up, but he did tell me that I could email him anytime, so I am confused on what I should do. What are you opinions please?

My question is - why do you want to wish him a happy birthday? What is your motivation here?

If you're looking for an excuse to talk to him and hoping for "something", don't you think you're just setting yourself up for disappointment?

I know it hurts that he left you, and for an ex which makes it that much worse. Why aren't you mad at him for that? Why would you want to wish him a "happy" anything?

I honestly think it would come off as desperate or stalkerish. If I were you, he would be lucky I wasn't sending him a flaming bag of sh*t for his birthday.

Move on with your life, honey, he isn't worth it.

I like your answer, but the thing is I am not desperate. I am just being the nice person that I am and just wish a happy birthday. I am not necessarily mad at him, I am just confused and hurt that he left me out of the blue because we didn't have problems 'to make us break up'. But haha I love the flaming bag thing, maybe I should do that hahahah. Thank you for your words.

Just send him a note with "Happy Birthday" and leave it at that.

I still wish all my ex's Happy Birthday I may not always get it in return but I don't care. It's not meant in a stalkerish way and it's never anything more then a "Have a great Birthday, hope ya good." message. Some never respond not that I expect them to because it's not the point of me sending the message, some do and some just return the gesture on my birthday. *shrug* it just depends what you say, how you say it and if you then bug him at a later date for not acknowledging you or take his acknowledgment as a sign to try again.

(I say SOME I've dated 5 guys in my lifetime all very brief but were all friends beforehand)

I don't think it's a bad idea. As long as its just happy birthday, there's no harm done. :)

It seems to me that you still want to maintain some kind of relationship with him even if it's just as friends. Otherwise you wouldn't have bothered asking this. If he told you that you can e-mail him anytime, then he probably wants the same thing. You should absolutely say "Happy Birthday" even if that's all you send because it lets him know that you still acknowledge his existence at least.

Keep a friend, tell him Happy Birthday. Later you can see if you want to do something with him, things take time.

But it is all about what you want, if you want to get back with him or just be friends, send him a happy birthday message. If you don't then you are not obligated to send one... but then you wouldn't be asking this question :)

I agree with this answer. Keep it simple. Just type Happy Birthday. that's it. It tells him you still love him but it won't make him uncorfortable
