Depending on your exact living situation, I'd suggest seeds, and possibly some pots and other gardening supplies. Being able to raise your own food will leave you VERY well prepared if things get nasty, and save you lots of money even if they don't. Plus it's also probably pretty satisfying to know that you're eating food you grew yourself. And there are some crops (radishes are the big ones I know) where it's only a few weeks between planting and eating, so it's not a huge investment of time.
