What do I buy a rich friend for her birthday and Christmas?

I’m running out of ideas. As a new nurse’s aide, I earn very little money and spend $120 or more on travel a week. I have a rich friend who keeps buying me expensive gifts. I can’t explain to her that I’m struggling to make ends meet. Trying to save for my future on top of everything and everyone else, I must buy gifts for. She wouldn’t understand. She’s never struggled before. I’m already buying cheap boxes of chocolates for my other friends and things like $20 candles and socks and half price t shirts and gifts from outdoor markets and for her, I’m running out of ideas. I’m really hard up. But I can scratch to get her something up to $50 within the next two years.

Don't worry about cost. Get something that shows you know something about her (if she likes dogs, a small pin for her blouse or a pull tag for a backpack). Or get her a small piece of art, a drawing or sketch or small painting. You can find those at many art stores or a market or even an art school near you. Or make something. Your own piece of art. Fresh bread.

The point of the gift is to say "I care" and "I notice things about you", not the cost.

If your friend sees you, equally, as a friend then cost won't matter. Just buy something you would buy any other person, without regard to personal wealth.
