What do I get my best friend/crush for her birthday?

I am a junior in high school. I've been friends with this girl for 3 years, and for the past 2 she has been one of my best friends. I talk to her more than I talk to anyone else. We always get along great and we have never had any big fights. Last year I got her a sock monkey for her birthday and ever since she has kept it in her room in her reading chair and usually holds it when she sits there. Last year she was dating a senior when I gave her the sock monkey (they broke up when he went to college) and for the past couple of months she was dating a guy from another school (they went to homecoming together as a blind date and started dating right after). Now she is single again and I've recently started to feel like there is something more going on but I'm not exactly sure if she feels it too. What is a gift I can give her to let her know that I might be interested in her?

I'd say anything that somehow proves you know what she likes, especially since it's something she didn't talk about - she may have mentioned it like once or so, but it stuck in your mind ever since..could be something small (get her something else as well if you think it's too small..). Know her favorite color, scent, anything..Girls are much more into sensitive details than guys.

Or make it something personal: really *make* something for her: poem, scrapbook, doll..

I don't know really what present says "I Like You" but the two best presents I got from good guy friends while in high school were 1. A framed pic of the two of us and 2. a necklace that I like A LOT, it was something that was exactly my style and not crappy quality and it showed he put thought into getting me something I'd like. If you have any inside jokes you could go that way, but that's more buddy-buddy than personal.
